Soli, have you done anything in Master of Mana with the Aristrakh? I've been trying to figure out how they work and having some success but not really a ton of it.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

Wait, the spiderpeople, or the nomad people?

In either case, I have no friggin clue... the civilopedia might help, but MoM is not as well-documented yet as FFH2 was.

Is there anywhere to learn some of the basic changes of the mod? The quick start guide I found was just on the changes made to the mod the mod was based off of so it did not help as much as it could have. Also there seems to be some story behind the things going on, is there a better way to find out about the backstory of the races and stuff without just slumming in the civilopedia entries.

So it seems I accidentally put my canteen in my wheelbarrow and didn't notice... and then I got really thirsty... so right before going to sleep I go to take a swig from my canteen and... end up snorting a line of low-grade meth.

The vampire/undead guys that start with the Skeleton Soldier Summon. The Calabim (however its spelled, the original vampire guys) can transform midgame into them or you can start as then. Near the top of the list in Play now for races.

Familiarizing yourself with Fall From Heaven 2 first is easier, but as for MoM-specific changes, the best way is to play it. Barring that, trawl the changelog for each version of MoM, and read the forum.

The in-game Civilopedia details a lot of stuff too.

I have no clue about the vampires even in base FFH. They seemed interesting though... maybe I'll check them out.

As far as I can tell, the Aristrakh (which is also a somewhat hard name to spell) Have two interesting things so far: The Fallow Civ trait (Cities do not grow via food, but they do still grow in a different way, so farms are fairly pointless), and everything that isn't a vampire unit for them is an undead, with the possible exception of the Settler Acolytes.

There is also this weird civ whos concept works against them (the civ that wants to recreate the ice age... actually shouldn't I hear)

I wonder if they fixed that.

Yes but does it work against them even though storywise it should help them?

Well, I haven't seen much use from desert everywhere. If you're talknig about the Illians though, don't they gain food from tundra tiles?

I believe so, perhaps it is because they cannot use certain food upgrades because of tundra.

Excited about the talk of playing a Civ 4 mod with you all - I installed Civ 4 (then updated), Warlords (then updated), Beyond the Sword (then updated), Fall From Heaven 2... and at that point tried to start a game and play around with it...

To my dismay - it crashed. BTS wouldn't load, Warlords wouldn't even start loading, and regular Civ 4 couldn't run the XML init.

Turns out, Windows 7 Ultimate is entirely incompatible with a from-the-cd install of the Civ 4 series. There is a lot of troubleshooting internet chat about ways to get around this for steam-downloaded Civ 4, but nothing about a from-the-cd install.

New computer makes Civ 5 (and Gods and Kings tomorrow) look amazing... but OS can't run 4. #Firstworldproblems

WTF is wrong with your Windows 7 (32 or 64-bit?) "Ultimate", then.
I'm running a potentially dubious Civ IV of the certainly not-Steam kind, and it runs fine, BTW runs fine, FFH2 works fine, Orbis worked, and MoM works. This is on Win7 Home Premium 64-bit, with a crappy intel hd graphics chip but awesome parts otherwise for a laptop.
