Megaproject - Cathedral to Armok

I have had an idea.

I want to build a fortified cathedral to Armok. Gothic-style, out of engraved volcanic stone (possibly obsidian if I find enough of it). With iron spires and spikes on it. Soaked in goblin and elf blood (no cleaning !), possibly with goblin and elf boneyards, and filled with traps and stone chairs, as well as statues. With an adamantine altar, and magmafalls. And battlements.

Probably will start in a rocky wasteland flat biome. With max volcanism.

Or better (simpler) than building, i add moar Z-levels between the ground and the first cavern and CARVE it from the very stone.

Probably will start it in 0.31.18.

I know it's not especially original, but it's BEYOND dwarfy and pure rule of cool, so i'm trying.

Anyone ever built one ? More ideas for making it even more badass ?

Cast it from obsidian, structure it so invaders will face your soldiers on top of the sacrificial altar.

I will disable invaders as long as the cathedral will be in construction. Too much of an annoyance to lose 3 masons and 4 miners to the gobbo archers and lose due to tantrum spiral. Then troll the elves, train my miners as military, re-enable sieges and fight both goblins and elves and shed blood in Armok's name.

Casting a full cathedral from obsidian would take forever, ( loads of pump stacks would rape my FPS and annoy me generally)

And fighting on the sacrificial altar... i was thinking of fighting amongst the choir (in a "fighting is prayer to Armok" way) but i guess I can do that.

Edit: I had another idea... BURNING GRAPHITE HATCHES FOR FIRE SACRIFICES !

I am also going to add [NOFEAR], maybe [NODRINK], [CARNIVORE], [LIKES_FIGHTING] and maybe even [BONECARN] to my dwarves, as well as removing useless skills.

So you are going to start a new fort with grand goals.

But then, you mod the game to go on easy mode.

Your project is now meaningless.

Instead try it like a true dwarf.
Build your epic cathedral with the default settings.

A megaproject created with siege off etc, is a carebear♥ project and not worthy.

For me it's not so much the lack of seiges, it's [NODRINK]. How can you call it a dwarf fortress without your citizens running off every few minutes to get drunk?

I heard your like sieges so I put a Goblin fortress in your fortress so you could siege while besieged.

Real Armok followers eat the flesh and drink the blood of their prey ! BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD !

Oh and NODRINK doesn't even work. My dwarves go and drink at the river.

Turning off invasions is the elven method. The Dwarven method is to build pump stacks to the magma sea and pump it up over the walls to keep out invaders.

I agree immensely

as for magma casting, dig out a large underground section next the magma sea for reduced pump stacks and let gravity a water's will to be stone do the rest.

Right, I will then be a true dwarf.

Now to make a correct world for this... i'm trying most of the X and Y-variance parameters at 3200.

Well, I started. And already am in !!FUN!! situations.

The river.

It has two alligators in it.

And I have no marksdwarf.

They already killed three of my dogs (hopefully i have plenty of others), pursued both of my leader and metalworker (hopefully did not get a bite out of them), and one of them slaughtered a giant jaguar who was passing. And with all of this, they barely got any damage.

I disagree immensely.

The goal of a megaproject is to create a, well, megaproject. It is worthy in itself. If you want a challenge you can of course create it with sieges on and get job cancellation spam every time a goblin ambush squad shows up. But this will not make the finished project more or less awesome.

A megaproject is not 'meaningless' just because you turn off sieges to be able to focus on the project.

The point of a megaproject is to be pointless, elaborate, and massive. Everything else (including magma and invaders) is optional, but improves the finished product.
