Two days ago, Japan was hit with a 7.2 earthquake, buildings shook, but there were no massive damages.
The city of Honaku was hit a few hours ago with an 8.9. No detail on projected deaths, injuries or property damage yet.
Apparently, in addition to a quake, it also generated a 30 foot tsunami that's sweeping over the country.

My local news station would be covering more of this, if they weren't so preoccupied with the drug raid on Charlie sheen's house.
