Thankfully, nuclear reactors don't 'blast', so at least they don't have to worry about that.
not impossible, in fact thats a worst case scenario right there.

Chernobyl isn't a particularly good example, since there was so much incompetence in that scenario that you're unlikely to see again.
Nevertheless, you can still have reactor leaks, shutdowns, etc, if things are unexpectedly damaged. I'm aware that one core of a reactor has already been shutdown.

Is this Tsunami heading towards Australia?

If so, I'm pretty fucked.

Yeah, sort of. It has to pass through Indonesia, though, so I doubt we'll be getting too much. Island chains take a lot of the energy out of the system.

Wouldn't want to be Indonesia or PNG however.

Chernobyl was a PoS, and IIRC was basically the "perfect storm" of reactor disasters. Modern reactors are designed to automatically shut down when they lose power. More dangerous in this case is the coolant flow to the storage areas.

Yeah. Added to the fact that there were reportedly no senior staff around, and that the entire procedure handbook was basically ignored when problems hit, it's obvious how the problem escalated. It would be hard to make a worse situation than that.

Coolant getting out would be a pretty bad scenario, however.

That's... interesting. Why does the tsunami suddenly pick up a bit of steam down at Antarctica? I'm seeing some blotches of red and orange down there.

Could be because of water depth or some other factor like that. Could just be a fluke in the mathematical model.

It's also interesting how it looks like the tsunami hits almost the entire west coast of the USA but tries its damndest not to hit Canada or Mexico.

Waikiki beaches have water pulled back 150 feet.

They even have a live feed.

So yeah, bracing for impact over there.

Wow, the water levels rising pretty fast.

They are likely waiting for the aftershocks to die down and the tsunamis to settle a bit; wouldn't want the aid organizations to get hit themselves.

Just my assumption. My question is, have the aftershocks died down yet? How long would they usually last for an 8.9?
