How do you change the material eggs are made out of?
« on: March 10, 2011, 03:17:27 pm »

The map I'm on has some wild gooses right next to the wagon. I want to capture them and get them to lay eggs made of metal. Is this possible? I remember somewhere it said it was. I know, it's cheating, but my map doesn't have ANY metal at all and the caravan isn't bringing any metal, either.

More like eggs of STEEL. Everyone got's enough gold for their entire family to have a wardrobe of gold clothes, for their little kittens to have little gold booties.

It's treated as completely normal because this is Dwarf Fortress.  There's absolutely nothing wrong with surrounding yourself with a wall of flames, only to later realize that you're surrounded by a wall of flames.
There's nothing that can't be solved by hurling fifteen roc birds at it.

Yeah, the thought of adamantine eggs is very tempting. Also, I don't have any neighboring civilizations other than the olm man and batman civs, so I'm not too worried about sieges or ambushes.

Anyway, is there something I can modify to make this happen?

Ok, On Topic:

Each Egglayer female has a [LAY_EGGS] tag, which includes the material of the egg. Gonna use the Elk Bird for example.

Code: [Select]
[CASTE:FEMALE]
[FEMALE]
[LAYS_EGGS]
[EGG_MATERIAL:LOCAL_CREATURE_MAT:EGGSHELL:SOLID]
[EGG_MATERIAL:LOCAL_CREATURE_MAT:EGG_WHITE:LIQUID]
[EGG_MATERIAL:LOCAL_CREATURE_MAT:EGG_YOLK:LIQUID]
[EGG_SIZE:60]
[CLUTCH_SIZE:2:10]
So you need to edit the raw of the bird you encounter the most and change it into the metal you want from the raws. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

And of course, melt the egg.

So, would it be possible to make it so that female dwarves laid eggs made of solid adamantine?

Think effective, my young man. CATS can be made do lay eggs made of solid adamantine!

Oh. That's a nice solution. I noticed the size tag in there, if I increased the size of the egg, would that  mean that the egg would yield more adamantine? Another thing, could I possibly make male cats lay eggs?

Check the modding forums. There is a new egg tag which lets you set the egg laying to be anything. When 31.20 was initially released, geese laid Iron Chairs.

Now, if the earnings from melting are based on the sole SIZE of the item, then yes, you can get more adamantine(though I don't know if you can get a whole bar or more...)

I believe adamantine is an adjective. Adamantite is the ore, which you smelt into adamantium, of which has adamantine strength.

If you change the material of their eggs into vapor blocks the same ones used for blendecs, will it appear to be as if they're farting?

So I could have geese that laid Adamantine statues or tower cap logs or bricks?
