Very few women engineers/physicists/mathematicians etc... Very few lady nerds. Very few female DF players.

Mystery solved:

Quote
U of Indianapolis US News data:
http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/university-of-indianapolis-1804/academics

Majors

Five most popular majors for 2009 graduates
Business administration and management    14%
Education    12%
Liberal arts and sciences/liberal studies    7%
Nursing/registered nurse training (R.N., A.S.N., B.S.N., M.S.N.)    15%
Psychology    7%

Not really a popular science/engineering school.

Compared to my school:

Five most popular majors for 2009 graduates
Business, management, marketing, and related support services    19%
Computer and information sciences and support services    9%
Engineering    12%
Health professions and related clinical sciences    11%
Psychology    12%

In my freshman physics1 course we had roughly 20 women in a 200 person lecture hall.

Biology courses are like 90% chicks though.

Secretly, every women you know plays Dwarf Fortress. No exceptions.
They just don't want to admit it because they don't want to break their femininity.
The ones that do admit it just don't care, or are already boyish enough that you don't notice that they're a girl.
And I don't mean don't notice like 'Whoa you're not a guy?' I mean it doesn't really matter to you.

That goes for both genders. We're all playing it. Right now.

We're all trapped in DF 1.0 as we speak.

I mostly play mmorpg type games when I play something on the computer but I do know how to play Dwarf Fortress and I play it sometimes.  Playing or not playing a game has nothing to do with femininity.  I would guess that the learning curve is what holds most people back whether they are male or female.  Anyway, I know at least one other woman who plays Dwarf Fortress and I know lots of other women who play online games.

I play Dwarf Fortress. I play a lot of games. I find this thread a little silly, really.

Me and nearly all of my female friends tend to play a lot of online games, and games in general. It's not such a big deal, really.

A woman? On the internet? Don't be fooled fellows, our friend Admiral Akbar knows the truth. And I can say that with impunity, because no woman would outlast the first five minutes of a Star War, much less the better part of three films. They'd be too busy sewing frills onto a garmet or vagazilling themselves to care for a fancy space opera.

This weaker gender also is incapable of typing without a proper man giving them instruction, either orally or written. Additionally, the prospect of broken nails dissuades all but the most adventurous. Yes, the keyboard presents a great barrier to women utilizing the magnificent teletype network we call the Inter-Web.

Yes, an amazing invention this inter-web. Did you know it was built to defeat the commies during atomic wars? Yes, the inter-web's martial nature is unattractive to women, as they have neither the needed aggression, nor the constitutions to engage in hand to hand combat.

But alas, of late the modern woman has been agitating for additional rights and responsibilities. Some even say they desire the vote! Think of the absurdity of such a world gone mad. An opium addicted chinaman might be able, but I just cant wrap my head around such a confounding thought.

No good sirs, there are no women on the electro-mechanical rails.
