Let's play X-COM, TERROR FOR THE COMPUTER
« on: March 10, 2011, 10:12:09 am »

Hey guys so I have never LPed a game before and due to my voice unable to "kick in", it would be a terrible idea to LP with a voice commentary.

So I'll just... LP TFTD.

Note that I have never finished an X-COM game before and I have a habit to savescum, I PROMISE I WON'T DO IT THIS TIME!

I'll be using XcomUtil 9.7 BETA. I won't be using any game advantage feature, unless it was a bug in the first place (Dye grenades)

DISCLAIMER: I AM NO MEANS A PROFESSIONAL GAMER AND ALL FRAGS ARE PURE LUCK!

First, let's start off with suggestions:

1. Where should I build my first base?
2. What research path should I focus on?
3. Should I LP this game?
4. What difficulty should I play this game in?

If you want to be included, just say "I'M IN!", and specify if you have any special name you want for your X-COM character.

Note that I won't be using much of a classification system, so the first recruit in the recruit line is the first person who volunteers to fight the evil forces of Ganondorf the sea.

Also, I'm having trouble finding the 2.1 patch for TFTD, any links? The strategycore just won't work, it gives me a corrupted file.

Start near China, the UK, or America's West Coast. They tend to be the most hard hit areas.

IIRC, heading straight for the armor, and then ships is life saving. Just make sure you get a patch for the deep one bug.

Alright thanks.

So if there are no other objections, when I start my LP, I'll start in the China Sea, skip gauss, research sonic rifles, and research armor immediately after that?

Actually, Gauss is a perfectly nice stepping stone until you mass enough funds.

However, Sonic is accessible enough, I have fast access to them, on any of my raids, plus aliens use them so I have no problems arming my platoon of soldiers with Sonic weapons.

Gauss vs. Sonic is a lot like the argument of laser vs. plasma from EU. Of course, sonic gets a big bump from the fact you need to get clips now, but gauss is neat if you are left with nothing for a month or two.

I'll research Gauss if I have absolutely no Sonic guns and I have nothing else to research. However, if I have a Sonic gun lying somewhere in my stash, I'm gonna research it first.

And no its not an argument like the lasers, not only the ammo thing because:
1. Some enemies are weak to laser in EU, while in TFTD they are RESISTANT to gauss
2. It also has a lower damage I think?
3. It takes a much longer time to research the gun AND the ammo compared to the laser.

Also, Sonic Oscillators

And yet again, I forgot to mention that the 2-part missions are a PAIN, especially with LIMITED AMMO.

Gauss weapons are still pretty nice, good for anything lower than a Lobsterman, even for the ones with resistances. And one thing, is that it has auto-shot.

And if you're using XcomUtil, Gauss has unlimited ammo.

Oh I disabled that feature.

I will be using the defensive base layout if anyone is fine with that though.

By the way, I NEED RECRUITS FOR MY ARMY!

Phantom and breadbocks, perhaps you would like to volunteer for my new army?

I've always wanted to fight creatures that are horrifying beyond human comprehension, with a pop gun, for the greater good. I'm in. No weapon preference, standard forum name.

1. Location: China Sea.
2. Research: Skip gauss.
3. Should I LP this game? Yes.
4. Difficulty: Superhuman. It's Fun. DO IT!
Defensive base layout: Sure.
