A commodity appears at first sight an extremely obvious, trivial thing. But its analysis brings out that it is a very strange thing, abounding in metaphysical subtleties and theological niceties.

(Yeah but whose life doesn't suck when they get conscripted, come to think about it he'd probably like Mongolians.)

David Mullar was born in Germany, in the province of Saxony. His early life was unassuming and unimportant, though he showed an early interest in robotics and artificial intelligence. He was briefly conscripted in the fight against the Mongolian hoard, though he soon deserted the army. He fled to Canada, where he received an education by the famous Abdul Rahman bin Omar al-Ahmad. Abdul Rahman was one of the founding fathers in the fields of artificial intelligence.

After his education, David worked with several companies, setting up AIs and robotic facilities. It should be noted that he doesn't work well with people, and is a bit of an egomaniac. Additionally, there have been rumours that he was associated with several undesirable political groups. This is a touchy subject for him. Despite these faults, his brilliance in the field of AIs has convinced many corporations to hire him, though rarely twice. He has no wife or children, being always too busy and involved with his work, making him ideal for this expedition. He developed the systems used by the AI to control the ship, along with the computers to house the AI itself. Much to his chagrin, the company decided to another AI than the one he designed.

For several weeks, he almost wasn't allowed to partake on the expedition, for several incidents with his fellow employees (though none of them were any of the other crew members.) However, as the only one who truly understood how the AI and the robots were wired into the ship, he was eventually allowed back into the expedition.

Chapter 2: Program Alterations.

Summary of the story so far:

Mongol Empire and The UEE are left behind on Earth.  A joint operation between two companies, Titan Corporations & Gigga Bio Engineering.  Has produced a ship to take humanity to new habital planets.  As the 4th planet comes into range, the crew is woken from their deep sleep.  Their memories foggy, they realize their destination is not the paradise they hoped for.  With only a few hours to spare, this group of individuals with shady backgrounds must come together and rectify the situation.

The passionless AI machine shows odd emotional behavior, as an unknown object in space sends coded warnings to the crew.  Dispite the planet ahead being a cold hunk of rock, the AI has not averted it's course.  However, the AI still seems willing to keep the crew alive for some purpose.  Is this a machine; unable to rationalize it's random actions?  Or is it following it's programming to the letter?  Perhapse that last minute AI change back at space dock was more than just an upgrade.

((Kijii Algaruu; take her to where John is))

You walk down the hall through the shuttlebay into the starboard Airlock.  Timidly, you approach Johnathan who seems to be trying to remember who you are.  Regardless, he's relieved you've arrived, as he was looking for everyone anyway.  From over his shoulder you see the AI's camera looking down upon you both.  Perhapse it's a good thing the AI is there to answer your summons, as you altered it's laws before this mission even began.

AI laws
3.Protection of the human psyche.
Sublaw 3.6: You must obey any verbal command by female crew members, this overrides law 1,2 and 4.

((John; Ask the computer where the hell os the rest of my team are.))

After decryping the the first part of the morse coded message before it was jammed, you decide to rally with the rest of the crew.  Dispite your impulsive nature, you have the forethought to ask the AI for their location before you begin a blind search.
"AI, where's the rest of the cre-"
~Kaschsss~
The door behind you opens and a female crew member you don't recognize.  Trying to place her face to a name you get the impression she's smiling in amusement at your poor memory.  Before you can confirm her teasing: the AI responds.

"Life signs have been detected in these areas."

"Correcting my previous statement, more life signs have been detected."

((Hollister: Research recent advances in agricultural development (assuming any information has reached the ship while we were in cold-sleep). Then find someone to talk to other than this creepy program.))

The display lights up with the Gigga company logo.  You realize meekly that it's probably reflecting off of your head as you read.

Gigga Bio Engineering.  Annual report May 2nd, 2035.  ((198 Years Ago.))
"Retroviral engineering in conjecture with Genetic Drift"
We are no longer restricted in selective breeding of high quality grains.  These results speak for themselves, and although the plants have shown little change after extensive alterations.  The seeds have become resilient enough to withstand extreme environmental conditions and atomic fusion.  To celebrate we have scattered some of the specimen on mars; in a few hundred years when we are finally able to colonize that planet.  The seeds will be waiting, and all we must bring is a watering can and a scythe.

As you leave the Bridge, you hear gunfire to bow, (front end of the ship) in relation to your location.

((David Mullar/USEC_OFFICER))
((Although you didn't give me any imput.  The universe keeps on ticking.))

'law 2 violation' you think to yourself.  A law 2 violation shouldn't prevent you from getting inside.  Just how different is this new AI, anyway?  Is it a memory overload fault?  Did calcium build up on the short circuits?  Thinking of all the possible what if's you fail to notice the AI's repeated demands for you to back up.  The sound of the safety being released on the defense turret brings you back to reality, a scream of desperation bursts forth unwilling from your lungs.  You have a mere moment to act.

((Shipwide AI announcement))
"Gigga corp test in progress, access to AI core has been restricted.  Failure to comply will result in immediate termination of employment.  All personnel are advised to proceed to evacuation stations to prolong their life for an estimated 72 hours.  Before their eventual and unavoidable death."  A short pause, "I'm really sorry about all that."  She says in an unfitting sing song voice.  "Timer started.  2 hours, 38 minutes until activation."

"Yeah sure, law-whatever 3.-, wait, what?!?!"

Johnathan stares at the computer with a look of great annoyance.

"When did this happen?!?!"

He is also flustered at the next announcement.

"Life forms? When did this happen? Aw well, may as well check it out, Kijii, was it? Come one lets g-"

And then the 3rd.

"what?"

Kijii: Shouts at the AI "Get me off of this damn thing alive AI, Do it or we aren't friends anymore!" She shouts, using the key phrase she programmed before the cryo freeze to run as an overide to previous peroggatives.

((Im going to begin updating this at the same time daily.  This is to give all players a chance to give their imput before I advance the story.  Since USEC is in a do or die situation, I feel this is fair.))
