Yeah, that's why the thing I really support is military service. In case of popular unrest, the army is from the population, and then should join it. (Like in Tunisia).

Except for that whole setting the precedent for the government to use conscription to fight against the rebel elements of the army.

Yeah, gotta disagree. If lybia had no millitary/air force at all, this revolution would have been over and successful a long time ago.
And hoping that the army joins the population is sorta risky, and doesn't always work out well (or at all).

Well if the conscript obey, you're screwed. But the gambit here is that they won't, given that we are at the information age and all.
Anyway, the bet that poeple are able to deliver a coherent and organized response should they have the informations and the means to do it is pretty much the basis of my political ideology.

No military isn't viable for a country.

Okay, yeah, I need to put this back in the bottle.  Guys?  Stop.  Stop right now.  Until some American state actually breaks down into armed revolt, don't bring it to my thread.  This endlessly circular history-wank never goes anywhere good.

Maybe not, but the amount of active armed forces present in Costa Rica and Iceland is at the very least extremely limited compared to their population.

It might be a good idea to lock this until something in America happens to warrant reopening it.

Yeah, tanks should be issued instead of those pesky cars. I WANT TO GO TO WORK IN AN ABRAHAM. And then revolutions will be easily done.

Tanks don't matter for sufficiently large values of gun. If the rebels had more anti-tank rockets, cannons, mines, bombs, etc (and people skilled enough to use them) they wouldn't be in the situation they are in.

Yes, because a bunch of people with military surplus and no discipline or structure are totally a match for an actual military.

although, Maniac, Bahrain and Libya both tried the whole unarmed mob approach too, and look how that worked for them.

Never said it worked every time.  But if your choice is between "always ends badly" and "sometimes ends badly", which are you going to chose?

So, just to get this back on topic: Is there any hint of other states thinking about implementing something similar?

No idea. I still think we (Michigan) should be appealing to the Supreme Court or something.

Agreed. Something like this has to be in violation of some kind of rule.

I'm thinking a constitutional challenge or something would be in order. What is it with you guys and state's rights? All they do is get you a bunch of mini-feds running around and fucking you more.

It does mean that only Alabama has to have Alabama's laws.

Exactly. It makes it so that we here in Ohio aren't directly affected by crazy michigan laws. It's also much easier to mount a counter-offensive in the legislature and at the polls this way.
