It'll go legal battle and since some of the groups against the bill include the United Auto Workers, Fraternal Order of Police, AFL-CIO, a chapter of the NAACP, and the Michigan Professional Firefighters Union there's some money to sling.

It'll be a long fight, the question will be if any judge puts a stay on the law (which it will be more than likely) while the judicial revue/appeals process grinds along.

A small part of me kinda wants to see enough people leave the state to remove its state status. Unfortunately that would likely encourage more lawlessness.

Wouldn't that require falling to a population of less than 20 000? Because at one point that was the requirement to attain statehood...

If Michigan went away they'd probably have to give at least part of it to Ohio.  Probably the smoggy part.  Nobody wants that.

...It's Michigan, is there anyone that actually wants it? Aside from finance corporations that could make a killing raping the state under this bill?

Admittedly, when I heard that the average price of a house in Detroit is like $17,000, I thought it'd be worth a shot to buy up huge swaths of semi-developed Michigan, to wait a couple decades for the economy to come back (haa haa hee hee hoo hoo) and rake in the cash Lex Luthor style.

Or better yet, have a giant private post-apocalyptic playground.  You could throw the world's biggest and best paintball tourney.

And guns are legal over there. Think you could rework AK-74s to be paint ball guns? You could charge a bomb (oh ho ho) for the authentic post-apocalyptic S.T.A.L.K.E.R style paint ball match!

After the way that senior bondholders to General Motors debt were screwed over, without involving normal bankruptcy court proceedings, I really don't give a damn that the state of Michigan now has the power to screw over Detroit.  It's been a hotbed of corruption for who knows how long.  I'll never buy a car made in that state.

Thank god we left there several years ago. I miss the house I was in for my first 10 years, but this is ridiculous.

Oh hey, it passed the Senate, in two days.  Unanswerable corporate-appointed dictatorial control of democratically elected town governments is now law of the land in Michigan.  And there it goes...

The US of A, now 49 states with a financial semi-feudalism-ish/fascist area near Canada.

Now to just get it signed into law by the governor, and then the AFL-CIO and possibly the NAACP can sue. :)

You know, this reminds me of when I read about one of the Dakotas having financial problems in the past and the other took over the government for awhile.
