Side by side fights:  I think they need a roof so that flying monsters don't cross over into other fights.  If it isn't too difficult, being 3 z-levels tall would allow them some ability to move in the air.

Checkerboard danger room:  A checkerboard of platforms over a pit, or a room with a checkerboard of pillars to make it hard for archers to get a good shot?

Flooding chamber could be fun.  I'm not sure about doing it with magma, but with water I could easily see fights the style of spear wielding merman vs. axedwarf.  Can the merman survive without air long enough to get the advantage?  Or drowning dwarf vs. drowning dwarf.  Winner gets let out.

I think the side by side fights will work well enough as archery ranges.

Maybe the top of the platform could be modified to look something like this to serve the purpose of a catwalk as well.

Err yea I knew I was five zillion points of the mark... I was testing you.. to see if you knew your own system.... you passed >.>

I've gone ahead and made the official point level 100, so I've bumped the skills on your fighter a bit.  She is listed in the third post.  If you want any changes let me know.

Since this is the planning stage, I'm not killing anyone off or giving out any rewards yet.

Upcoming fight:
Dual Sword Elf (100 pts) vs. whoever next picks a character

I am excited.  I think I figured out how to mod bone, obsidian, and
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
to be able to use them in the arena.

What do people think...Should I allow spoiler metal and spoiler stone as starting items?  I'm personally leaning towards allowing the metal, but not the metal cloth or stone.  I'd want to reserve those for prizes.

The obsidian swords are being deflected by copper armor, but are causing significant bruising under the armor.  They also tear through any uncovered flesh.

Aren't obsidian swords (vanilla) made of wood actually? Or was that fixed?

Anyways, keep them all for prizes.

Alright, I'm taking a character.

Owner: Do... Do I really have to tell you? It's 'Aramco,' not hard to figure out.
Name:  Ithera Ebire (Elven for Master Race-- straight from language_elf. Technically, Ebire is the verb form of race, but it sounded better so I used it anyway.)
Species: Elf
Gender: Male
Weapon: Bismuth Bronze (I think I misread-- so I actually get a) Black Bronze Whip (12 points)
Ammo: None (0 points)
Head Armour: None (0 points)
Hand Armour: None (0 points)
Body Armour: None (0 points)
Foot Armour: None (0 points)
Leg Armour: None (0 points)
Shields: None (0 points)
Skills: High-Master Lasher (87 points)

Which adds up to 99 points, leaving me with one to spare. Yeah, get ready for some ELVEN MASTER RACE!

Wait, I need to get into character. Alright, my motivation is this-- I have to defend the honor of the ELVEN MASTER RACE against impure heretics!

EDIT: Oh, and about the 'mutations' you mentioned, is [FLIER] included? And a second thing, can the point limit be changed to 101, so I can buy a loincloth? I'm not sure I want to be charging into battle naked, you know.

Or maybe there's a god who's just completely insane and sends you to Detroit, Michigan in a new body if you ever utter the name "Pat Sajak".

About the mutations:  If you have an idea for a mutation, and I can figure out how to impliment it fairly easily and we give it a point cost to make it balanced, I'll add it to the list.
The same goes for a bad mutation, only you would get some bonus points.  I'm not comfortable enough with the raws yet to do major bodypart tweaking, but I should be able to implement some interesting twists to fighters.

I would actually have to raise the limit to 103, as you could get a loincloth for 2 points, but it would cost 2 more for it to be made of cloth or leather.

If you go with just a master lasher, you would have 10 points left over.  Enough for either leather armor (5+2=7pts), or if you want some leather or silk clothing maybe a turban(2+2=4 pts) and robe (2+2=4 pts).  Either way, you would have a couple more points to throw into a whip upgrade.

If you get back to me within a few hours, I'll run a fight between Ithera Ebire and Alista arna.  Otherwise expect the fight Monday.  I'll be travelling this weekend for my parents 30th wedding anniversary.

Wait... so if I only pay two points, what is it made of? Nothing? I'll take a cloth one, then. (Unless leather costs the same as cloth, if it does I'll have it out of leather.) No magic 'no material' items for me.

Well the system is designed for each item to have a two part cost:  1 to get the item type 2 to define the material

But this does give me an idea.  I think I'll try to make a new material for armor that will cost 0 points.  Maybe call it paper.  Light enough to have no effect on movement, weak enough that bunny teeth cut through it like razors.  Paper material won't be ready for a few days, but I'll make some changes to the materials section right now.  Basically there will be a 0 point material option for each item type.

I'll make your fighter with a leather loincloth and start the fight.

Edit:  Made a few more changes to your character as whips use blunt attacks.

I think you posted Doom just as I modified the material costs.  I've made a couple of changes to bring him in line with the new setup.  I'm going to make the paper material right now, and then I'll have time for a fight.

I think I'll drop the paper buckler and toss more points on Dodge. The end result would be this:

Owner: Crazy Cow
Name:  Doom
Species: Reptile Man
Gender: Male
Weapon: Red Steel Long Sword, 24 points
Ammo: None
Head Armour: None
Hand Armour: None
Body Armour: Black Bronze Chain Mail, 20 points
Foot Armour: None
Leg Armour: Black Bronze Leggings, 20 points
Shields: None
Skills: Competent Sword, 15 points
         Skilled Dodger, 20 points
Total: 99 points
Bio: Quality over quantity! Crush the thin-skins!

I didn't like having the buckler, anyway; it didn't fit the theme of the character. I also facepalmed the moment I realized that I could have upgraded my armor instead of leaving two points unused.

It is time for the arena's first fight.  It will be a four contestant battle royale.  As arena planning is still ongoing deaths will not be permanent and the only prize is pride.

In the first corner, we have fresh from the elven-ratmen wars...Alista arna!  Seeking glory and fame, she dual wields swords while wearing leather clothing made from the skins of her former foes.

In the second corner stands a werewolf.  Wearing nothing but a leather cloak and the hair his gods gave him, he bashes his twin copper bucklers and screams what we can only assume is his name, "I am Werewolf!!!"

Across from Alista arna is our third fighter, another elf, Ithera Ebire.  Wielding a cobalt whip and wearing nothing but a loincloth, this is one strange elf indeed.

The final fighter, from the dark tunnels below the arena, is the reptile man Doom.  Wielding a red steel sword, the sharpest metal normally found in the arena, Doom is also the only fighter to don metal armor today.  Will it help?  Or will the weight just slow him down?

And the fight begins.  Doom rushes at Alista arna, striking out with his longsword and missing.  She counterattacks, but he dodges away.

Across the arena, first blood is drawn.  I am Werewolf strikes at Ithera, but he parries the shot and then lashes the werewolf in the upper leg, chipping the bone and tearing ligaments and tendons in his left hip.

Ithera Ebire continues his assault, kicking the werewolf in the arm, and lashing him in the gut.  The werewolf charges in desperation and knocks the elf over backwards.  He strikes at Ithera, but even on his back he parries the shot. Another parry, another.  Then a counterattack.  Ithera Ebire has lashed I am Werewolf in the head, killing him instantly.

After a great show of dodging skill by our other fighters, there is finally a blow.  Alista Arna stabs Doom in the hand with her long sword, and the sword gets lodged.

Ithera Ebire heads towards his remaining foes.  He casually lashes Alista Arna in the pancreas, then the foot. Then he lashes Doom in the left wrist, shattering it.  Doom loses hold of the red steel longsword.

The elves take turns striking Doom, until Alista Arna's longsword gets lodged in his stomach.  He gives in to the pain, and Ithera Ebire ends his life with a lash to the brain.

Ithera strikes Alista's hand next, shattering it and making her drop her shortsword. Seconds later, the third fighter drops dead of a lash to the brain.

Congratulations Ithera Ebire!  Three kills, and you didn't even get a scratch.

YEAH! CHAMPION! Too bad I don't win anything. Not even a scratch? Not one? Well, I knew that I was the master race, but this...  Hmm... Well, he seems to like lashing peoples' brains out.

Don't get too cocky yet.  I also tried pitting your figher against the giant cave spider sample fighter.

Ah well. People are dodging too much. Stop putting points in life-saving skills, everyone!

I think I'll drop the paper buckler and toss more points on Dodge. The end result would be this:

Owner: Crazy Cow
Name:  Doom
Species: Reptile Man
Gender: Male
Weapon: Red Steel Long Sword, 24 points
Ammo: None

Foot Armour: None

Shields: None
Skills: Competent Sword, 15 points
         Skilled Dodger, 20 points
Total: 99 points
Bio: Quality over quantity! Crush the thin-skins!

Tell you what... let's try distributing my armor around a bit.

Owner: Crazy Cow
Name:  Doom
Species: Reptile Man
Gender: Male
Weapon: Red Steel Long Sword, 24 points
Ammo: None
Head Armour: Cobalt Helm, 16 points
Hand Armour: Cobalt Gauntlets, 16 points
Body Armour: Spellwood Chain Mail, 18 points
Foot Armour: None
Leg Armour: None
Shields: None
Skills: Adequate Sword, 10 points
         Skilled Dodger, 20 points
Total: 104 points

Seems like there is much more protection now. Let's see how that works.
