What the heck is up with towns....

ok.. adventure mode is basically unplayable now...
Everyone is jammed into two or 3 houses in all the cities and theres like a strip of grass behind or beside all the houses.
what the heck is the point of this... i none of the npcs have a family job or history... they wont give me jobs.. theres no stores or temples or taverns..
what has happend to Dwarf fortress its like this on every download why would he do this...  why not Fix it yet what is going on with my game!

What other answer do you expect? This is the way it is until toady changes it. You can play a previous version if you liked it better, or wait.

Pay attention to the development blog.

Towns are currently completly being rewritten. Right now there's villages and towns for humans, and this'll be expanded upon next development release, the other civs will have to wait till the army arc.

Villages are kinda sparse and boring, towns however contain shops, which you can identify by the slabs in front of them.

Also, there's castles now, where there's lords and ladies giving you quests and people you can recruit.

He told you to pay attention and essentially said the same thing I did. Wait for Toady to change it.

he also told me all the details about the castle towns and cities the stuff i didnt know already and that it was being all reritten at the moment...

In addition to what he said: Town maps will get fixed back up in Update 1 of the Caravan Arc. That means as soon as Toady is done with the current round of bugfixes (so, a week or two from now) he'll get to work on that. They should then be better than they were previously.

Minor additional features will go in in Updates 2, 3, and 4 also include adventure mode buildings, those are for features which don't exist yet.

Which lists the short-term plan (ie, next few months) and mid-term plan, which may take a couple years.

Release 4 here. Fortress mode feasting and such getting fleshed out more is something I have been waiting for for while now. Currently they just kind of hang around some statue or table without actualy drinking, eating or fist fighting.

Actualy it could be release 5, im not sure if I understand the scedule correctelly...
