Wait, what difficulty? No-dachi, I presume but want to make sure.

But seriously, melee in No-Dachi is hard, if only because of the sheer number of enemies you have to kill. Especially in fortresses, I'm not sure if it's a game design or not, but I fortified a room and killed over 40 bodyguards yet they kept coming. xD

But other than that, it isn't too bad. Duels are still the same as ever, and battles aren't too bad either- it's not like you'll be fighting a lot of them anyways.

My two cents, by the way: Go traveling in the mountains and slaughter some samurai brothers which should help on the honor side, as well as killing thieves and bandits, if you're capable of fighting melee.

Only hard part of No-Dachi is melee, in my opinion, however. And I hope that you have a chairy chest there, :P

About time someone did a LP for this, too.
One thing about melee: F#%king spearmen. Everything else can be taken down at range(and swordsmen are easy picking even in swordfights), but spearmen are just nasty, especially if one catches you as you round a corner.

Arquebusiers aren't that bad, and nor are spearmen. Spearmen are usually taken down by the bow, and are completely unable to attack if you get in close range. Actually, spearman round a corner is a pretty good position to take it out, unless it's just within its killing range, but that isn't too likely. Besides, if you rush in, it's very unlikely that you will get hit, and you'll kill it quickly. But spearmen are really nasty if they manage to surround you - no hope for you there, I'm afraid. The units that I hate the most, is actually archers and arquebusiers with two lives. >.>

The only real hard part about the melee is not the aggressiveness nor the Arquebusiers but the sheer number of enemies you have to kill. In fortresses, there are over 40 enemies trying to kill you on one floor, as I have learned the hard way- and it might be sixty or more, actually, I didn't exactly count but 40 is the minimum for sure- and I have never survived a normal melee. I kill up to around twenty, but I eventually get surrounded and die- that's my limit I'm afraid. Tanto is easy, since you only need to kill what, seven or eight? :P

Of course, the only exception is causing revolts, which is fun and easy, since then you have a specific target to kill. Just rush up there, avoid enemies and snipe.

You could just try and not get caught(in fortresses). Kinda hard, since you can't hide bodies and I think guards still patrol on lower floors when you're not on them.

One thing I do like about this game is that if you try to hide in a room, especially with more than one entrance, guards will often surround the room before sending anyone in(occasionally some poor idiot will charge in without backup, though).

Not getting caught is almost impossible. Also, I don't think guards react to bodies from my experience- they chase after you but I don't think they recognize the corpses of their own, >.> That might be just me though

In any case, yeah, the guards are actually *sensible*- like if they know there's someone behind a corner shooting at you, they don't rush in, they wait and tire the enemy out- which is often effective, because they usually hold the only corridor further into the floor >.>.

Favourite way of dealing with guards in fortresses is to go a multi-roomed corridor with only one entrance and is long enough so that it doesn't fit on the screen. Go to the edge and start bowing the horde of guards that come at you - guards will still come charging in and die, because they don't recognize any choke points that you are using to snipe them- as the choke point is essentially the edge of the screen. ;)
