ÿ俾瀀攀琀栀 Chinese anyone?
« on: March 07, 2011, 03:28:11 pm »

I was browsing through my playlist and I saw two weird artist names:
ÿ俾瀀攀琀栀 and フライリーフ

I just google translated them:
フライリーフ was Flyleaf in Estonian (Ests?) google changed it's mind, it's Japanese now
ÿ俾瀀攀琀栀 was ÿ Biyoupanhan Gardenia in Chinese.
I have never seen a ÿ Biyoupanhan Gardenia in my life so I ask you, does anyone know what ÿ俾瀀攀琀栀  means?

It's gibberish in Chinese. If you do a search on just the Chinese characters, the only full hit is on last.fm, where comments indicate that it's actually a Swedish metal band named Opeth, and some software screws up the ID3 tags trying to convert them to Unicode.

Although if you're really curious, I *think* the closest literal translation in Chinese would be "Make harrowed climb the offering gardenia"

The 2nd character is really obscure, but it looks close to a couple of characters meaning "to harrow/worry", and the 4th character literally refers to pearls or gems left in the mouth of a corpse (as an offering in the afterlife -- kind like the coins over the eyes to pay Charon). Maybe call it "Harrowed Flowers Rising in the Mouths of the Dead" -- which is a long name for a band, but a GREAT name for a metal album.  :D

I recenty downloaded some music (~4 days) just by pressing next every few seconds on last.fm after entering some favourite artists. Opeth was one of the results. I didn't really like it after all though, it was just a normal rock band that was grunting the whole time :P.
At least I know where it's from though. Thanks :)
