Combat, limbs and fortifications oh my...
« on: October 05, 2006, 04:43:00 am »

Had a tussle with a few frogmen in a corridor of which one side had fortified walls (room on the other side was a barracks packed with dwarves)...anyway, the tussle went fine and all frogmen ended up being chopped into pieces. The only problem was that one piece happened to land on the wall (fortified) and the dwarves apparently weren't able to pick it up. End result was a bit of miasma and now some bones which cannot be picked up.

Possible to make it so that dwarves can pick up stuff which end up in the fort. walls without the need to actually stand on top of the item in question? A.k.a "reaching" for the items. It's not a major bug, but it's a somewhat annoying one, specially after intense combat.

i've had a corpse being chucked onto one of the impassable tile of a workshoop... watched it as it rotted/etc until i figured out why it wasn't hauled..

maybe it would be easier for the parts to bounce off the walls/impassable tiles onto neighbouring accessible tile instead?

There are too many ways that items can end up in impassible areas at the moment, though.  For now, I think dwarves need the ability to grab things in adjacent squares, even if just as a stopgap measure.

Connectivity makes that painful.  It would need to have four extra checks to see if the adjacent square were part of the job dwarf's map component or something.  It's somewhat do-able I guess.  The reach across to extra squares seems kinda reasonable and is probably good for several adventure mode situations...  I had a req somewhere about this, but I don't remember exactly what if anything it has to add to this discussion.

Well, for a "neatness" freak like me I'd not mind having this fixed...scattered bones around  fortress "hot zones" with fortifications and all kinda gets messy afte a while  :p

The same happened to me but with a Well.

The body part that fell in the Well couldn't be picked up.  Eventually, some miasma was released.  The creature's bones are still there, blinking.

The Well seems to be perfectly usable, though.
