LP Europa Universalis III: MMU... BLIND
« on: March 06, 2011, 09:21:15 am »

Title says it all. I've never played Magna Mundi Ultimate, but I love Europa Universalis III and would love to have a crazy game.

I have HttT. I would like to play a European minor, so I don't get utterly slaughtered. Suggestions?

European Minor?

You know, like Brandenburg, Holland, Milan. They're minor among other European nations. Anyways, give me some nations and I'll make a poll.

I think the Oxymoron was 'European Minor' mixed with 'Don't get utterly slaughtered'.

For your first game I recommend taking any nation from the "interesting in this period" list for the 1453 start. They can usually hold their ground if governed COMPETENTLY. Playing random minors hold the risk that even if you do outstandingly the MM event system will get you pulverized.

I was thinking of starting an LP myself of my current MMU game as it is very interesting.

Its a Quara Koyunlu -> Persia game. I'm already three decades after the Safavid dynasty took power and Sunni QK became the Shi'ite Theocracy Persia. My holdings are modern day Iran + parts of Georgia and the Crimean CoT. I was hoping to expand further to India but MM seems to have other plans as I got hit by a Religious War event. Mass Sunni uprising all over the empire and Ottomans just waiting to declare war :P .

If you are deadset on playing European minors then I suggest Lubeck and Bavaria in Germany and Brittany in France. Don't say we didn't warn you though.

In Magna Mundi, it's not an oxymoron. The AI is improved to be smart enough to realize that going to war with a member state of the Holy Roman Empire is asking for major pain, as the Emperor will usually join to aid the attacked member. Upon that, even if you do get territory taken from you, the Emperor will apply pressure to get the province returned to it's rightful owner. Or the Imperial Demesne. Really depends on the selfishness of the emperor.

I have a few go-to states in Magna Mundi that I enjoy greatly.

Bohemia is great, especially if you give in to the Hussites.

Venice is amazing if you want to focus on expanding your trade empire more than your military might.

Burgundy has a method to it that gets you on the fast-track to becoming Holy Roman Emperor, and subsequently, a kingdom. At the beginning, in 1453 anyway, Burgundy will get events to simulate the French/Imperial partition that came from the Bugundian Succession that divided it's territory between the Holy Roman Emperor, Austria in real life, and France, The Dutch and French parts going to Austria and France respectively.

However, if you add Burgundy's non-imperial territory to the Empire to improve relations, you can officially join the empire, and win the title of Emperor, which will allow you to elevate the Burgundian Crown to the Kingdom level, co-equal to that of the Kingdom of France, which prevents the Burgundian Succession, for one thing, and elevates Burgundy to Kingdom Tier. Burgundy is extremely powerful, with most of the extremely rich and populous Netherlands, Dutch as an Accepted Culture, and some of the best national ideas to fast-track it to Scientific Revolution and Liberte, Fraternite, Egalite. In otherwords, it can very quickly rise to superpower levels of awesome. If you're careful.

Transoxiana -> Mughal Empire. Nuff said.

Any Japanese minor is fun too.

For HttT you should get MMU : Magna Mundi Ultimate

It's a rushed update for the mod that incorporates the features for the HttT expansion to MMP.

It's less balanced but thus more fun and hectic than MMP.

You have to start in 1453. Venice is fun, but you're playing blind. Suggestions:
Japanese minor (I like Takeda, but it's REALLY hard to play. Kono is the easiest, in my opinion.)
Knights of St. John
Venice
Florence (subultimate mod for MMU)
Burgundy
Denmark/Sweden
Qara Koyunlu -> Persia
Malacca
Brunei
THE INVINCIBLE SOUTH-AMERICANS
Muscowy
Bremen
Georgia -> Byzantium
Bihar/Raptjuna -> Hindustan
Portugal
England
Spain
France
____
Also, you need to delete your cache to get MM working.
Note that Magna Mundi has different modernization mechanics than base EU, so I'd recommend a European nation.
____
Also, you can play Magna Mundi in multiplayer, but you can't both fabricate at the same time.

For Japanese Minors, I recommend Uesugi myself, which I believe is the easiest one of the lot.

But Japan nor the Knights Hospitalier are really good for a blind run, since they have quite a few new mechanics... well, that's the point of a blind run I guess, though. :P
