Ah, nickel. Goddamn nickel.

It seems it's only good for making cheap magma-proof metal parts (occasionally making a sandless embarks a bit easier to manage). It's only alloy is nearly completely useless - Not to mention it also needs zinc, and when was the last time you found zinc, nickel and copper on the same map? At least zinc can be made into brass with ease.

It's one alternative magma-proof material, or just your generic metal for constructions you don't want to waste more valuable ones on.

Well if you remove the [MULTIPLE_LITTER_RARE] tag from dwarves I think they have like 2-4 children each time they give birth. And if you get enough mothers up on the pillars you can probably get a good waterfall going.
Ashes are technically fire-safe.

mining, crafting, exporting
importing other resources.
*repeat*

if you manage to transform into another more sustainable industry before the ore veins depleted, yeah hey~

but serious, nickel is pretty useless as stated above.
and i probably would build cheap furnitures out of it, once i've got magma furnaces up and running.

I generally use nickel for bins, but I also have modded cobaltite and cinnabar to yield the metal "anthromm" (Old Irish for "not heavy") when smelted. I generally use microembarks, and need to use wood sparingly, so I needed a light metal that wasn't ridiculously rare or valuable.

@Footjob, you can microwave most grains I've tried pretty easily through the microwave, even if they aren't packaged for it.

I use nickel and lead in barrels and bins once I get my magma smelters & forges running. They are entirely valueless and let me save my copper for bronze, brass and billion (assuming tetrahedrite).

Use it as a fancy stone and make chairs out of it.

The biggest luck to have is to have a lot of hemtite/magnemite or limonite , and a lot of flux stone , your fortress will enjoy steel (perhaps adamantine too) for its days of living.
Now on topic ... nickel , well you can make out of it crafts ,also you could script nickel beds...

Stud EVERYTHING with nickel. Just put that shit on everything.

It'll give your crafts, furniture and weapons a bit of flavour for no real cost other than dwarfpower. Plus, smelting and studding all that nickel ( if you have magma ) is good practice.

Yeah, in the future you probably shouldn't strike the earth quite so hard

You can never have enough barrels pots or bins.

It's too bad you can't make nickel pots.

It's a pity i dont have coal:P

Also, i dont want to open the caverns, i dont want less fps

P.S. Lead spiked ball traps are awesome, one just killed my axelord clad in bismuth bronze in 1 hit :P I modded all metals to be weapons grade so... lead maces (studded with nickel, of course)?

You could:

1: Gen worlds with less caverns.

2: Savescum. Open the cavern, memories a spot that is just solid wall all the way through it, reload.

No one cool uses coal to power forges.
