I pretty much only drink water.

But add pretty much any flavoring, even one I hate, and it goes down fine.

Oh god I hate flavoured water. But plain water has always tasted delicious to me. Of course, I mostly drink to quench my thirst.

I do like the occasional tea/hot chocolate/wine/booze. But soda and fruit juice and crap? Bleeeeeggghh.

But yeah, 90% of what I drink is plain water.

It isn't 'needless elimination of enjoyment' when you never enjoyed something to begin with. I will listen to music in the background in video games (Though I usually turn it off if possible) or in movies. I never choose to listen to it on my own because to me it is meaningless noise which holds no enjoyment. Comments like yours just alienate people who don't like music and show your own ignorance. Music is not some basic necessity, it is a form of entertainment that some people enjoy and some do not.

And I only drink water when I just want to quench my thirst or when I'm working out. That's about it. Otherwise it's milk and occasionally soda. True story.

Why are you drinking if you are not attempting to quench your thirst and/or initiate the chemical side effects of a certain substance?

It wasn't the fact that you disagreed but the way in which you disagreed, equating music to a basic need like showering is a bit ridiculous and there is nothing wrong with drinking just water. Your ignorance stems from the fact that you assume others share your tastes, and that the only reason you could think of not to listen to music was religion. You propose that I need some sort of 'excuse' to not listen to music, which is well and truly a stupid statement in itself.

I would actually say that music is a basic requirement for me, in the same way that exercise, nicotine and socialising are.

Take one of those things away for more than a day and I'll get irritable as hell.

Still, I can't see why people are getting all bitchy because their viewpoint differs to that of another person.

Though, Forsaken, for not liking music, your response to the music I've shown you has been much better in general than the people I know who DO claim to like music, so there is that as well.

With the talk of religion being thrown around, it actually reminds me a bit of that saying about Atheism

I can't pretend to understand how someone could derive no pleasure from music as a whole, but I don't find it bizarre or weird at all.  That just means they're different to me.

My response to the music you linked me was "It's not terrible." 

I listened because a friend asked me to, but it wasn't something I would go back and listen to again just because I felt like some music. That sums up my feelings on music in fact. I have sampled many types recommended by friends but never heard anything I liked.

No, not really. Mostly because nobody ever says that. People make these bizarre statements about music all the time. Some people cannot understand or accept that my tastes differ from theirs, and they seek to figure out why I 'refuse to enjoy' their music and assume I have some sort of reason why. The only reason is I dislike it, so I don't listen to it. There is no religion involved, I am not oppressing their culture, and I am not insulting the music they like so much. I just don't listen to it.

So yes, when someone equates listening to music to a basic need like showering and insists I need some kind of excuse to not like it, I get miffed.
