What can I do with a mountain of Gold?
« on: March 06, 2011, 12:12:31 am »

According to DF-Prospector, my latest 3x3 embark site has quite a bit of Gold... over 112,000 tiles of it:

What can I do with it? There's the usual giant golden phallus, but that routine is getting a bit old. I'm not sure that the sky is high enough anyway. I'm currently thinking of making a surface fort... effectively, a castle... built entirely out of solid gold walls, floors and staircases, and equipped from top to bottom with golden furniture (Tables, Chairs, Doors, etc).

What else can be made from Gold? Not weapons, armor, siege ammunition (ballista arrowheads), beds, etc... none of those can be made from Gold, as far as I know.

Suggestions?

Very small modding is needed to make gold weapons and armor, just sayin'.

What about TWO giant gold phalli?  Rubbing each other?  Would that be a little too gay?

That's also more than enough gold to build two of my tower (21x21x100 = 44,100) so how about ship it to me and let me exploit it!  Either way, megaprojects are required.  Something astounding.  Current vote is for elaborate architecture, like long, winding spirals of gold, like a ribbon dancer in motion.  Something surreal and impractically amazing.

Also, DFFD?  I could use something to distract me when I get tired of watching my dwarves tantrum.

That didn't last long, huh? Shame, cause binary's cool. Anyway, an important message: I will be changing my names on every username based thing I use to ASCIt on/around 10/1. Consolidating, I guess you could say.

How about a giant dorf phallus killing an elf?

The only thing that's not afraid of a dragon is a marksdwarf.
Or maybe a mechanic, if given enough time to prepare.

The high value of the fort will attract a lot of down-and-dirty action, yes. So it looks like there's no down-side!

paved roads.  You can have a place where the streets are paved with gold.

I've been doing a little calculating... my embark is 3x3, which makes it 144 tiles across (both N<=>S and E<=>W). If they were consolidated as a layer stone, those 112,790 tiles of Gold are enough to fill my entire map from edge to edge for more than five levels! Holy crap, Urist... we've struck the Mother Lode!

seal the sky
and the perimeter
basically a square wall some z-levels high, with the top being floor, or even walls of gold.
anyone enters the region will be stunned, dazed, and vertigo.

never mind it's not really a sound suggestion  :P

Replace all interior doors, tables, chairs, chests, cabinets, etc. in your fort with gold. Rebuild workshops from gold bars. Pave gold roads and bridges. Install gold statues and chains. Make a gold well from a gold bucket, gold chain, native gold mechanism, and gold block.

Build a giant, multi-z-level gold goblet, filled with ... whatever you want.

Build a multi-z-level fort knox storage vault full of gold stuff.

Build a giant, multi-z-level gold goblet, filled with ...

... molten Gold?

Seriously, I've got enough of the stuff to replace the entire surface of the map with Gold... replace all natural ramps with Gold ramps, all natural ground with a Gold floor, all natural hills with shaped Gold walls... and it still wouldn't use more than 20% of it.

If Catapults fire lumps of Native Gold as ammo, does it do extra damage because it's so massive? I've literally got enough Gold to throw away...
