Oh hell yes. This has to become the replacement feature for chasms.

As for bottomless pits, they descend straight to a slade floor.

We need a formula to make these features more often.

Would generating a world with LEVELS_ABOVE_LAYER_1 set lower would cause hills of greater size than that to cut into the cavern.

And I don't think this should replace chasms... this should replace megabeast caves (with the addition of some site placement - like the side of a hill/cliff face -  and making sure creatures can path in and out of it)

I like fortresses because they are still underground.

That's beautiful, except it looks like a pile of lego :s
What visualiser is it?

3D Studio Max.

How did you export it to .3ds or whatever the file system is? I have 3Ds Max on a student license and haven't done a thing with it.

But others might prefer to have the mess contained behind windows to avoid tracking blood all over the their nice, color coordinated floor patterns. Kind of the Ozzy Osborne vs. Martha Stewart debate.

Is that an ocean I see? Or is it a freshwater lake? Either way, it's awesome.

Also, on the use of magma. Do I need to have part of the furnace only one z level above the magma, or can it be as many z levels as I want?

Thanks. Awesome, now I can contribute screenshots instead of just reading threads! I now have even more reason to work on the Dwarf Fortress rendition of the Empire State Building.
