It looks fun and, aside from DF, also similar to Dungeon Keeper.

EDIT: In the video, that guy's fortr-I mean, tunnel design was just asking for trouble :P

EDIT2: Looking at the website, I came across this comic...

You could start a zoo and end up with a natural history museum, I'm sure no one would mind.

Haha nice comic. The last time I played a demo the dwarves just kind of dig tunnels semi-randomly. You could guide them if I remember, but the "tunnel design" tends to be an obstacle to overcome rather than a means to overcoming other obstacles.

The moment the lever was pulled, somebody's pet kitten stepped onto the bridge. I read somewhere that if a cat falls more than 11 stories, it instinctively flares its legs out to increase air resistance. This slows it down enough to stick the landing with relatively minor injuries. In Dwarf Fortress, apparently, cats don't do that.

Just wanted to add that Tripwire Interactive (Killing Floor, Red Orchestra, RO2, publishers of "The Ball") are publishing this game, so you can feel pretty decent about where you're money is going. They're one of my favorite "mainstream" indie dev houses/publishers.

"The Steam servers are currently too busy to handle your request. Please try again in a few minutes."

It's been this way for the past hour and a half.

Fucking great.

Well I just played the demo it was quite alright.
While the gameplay has nearly nothing to do with Dwarf Fortress, I would be surprised if the Game Designer wasn't inspired by DF.
The gameplay is quite interesting for a few rounds but then it got boring.

From looking at the video, It gives me the feeling of a flashgame you play because you dont have anything else to do.
I think this pretty much sums it up.

But hey, the demo is free to play so go check it out for yourself, you might like it more than me.

Part of the description from the steam page:

Dwarfs!? offers an addictive, fast paced arcade-like experience, with plenty of difficulty levels and game modes to play, in the tradition of great games such as "Lemmings" and "Dwarf Fortress."

So it does mention it was inspired from Dwarf Fortress.

Does the game have a Z-axis, or is it purely flat? It might be worth a look either way.

Its all flat.  Its not really like DF at all other than it has dwarfs and magma.  So far it seems fun, but I've only played through the tutorial.

I cannot personally get into it but from the little of the demo I played I can say it is nothing like Dwarf Fortress and honestly aside from having a sorta similar look it doesn't even share that much in common (aside from features that aren't Toady's like dwarfs and lava, etc).

Its no doubt partially inspired by it, but it plays radically differently.

As for me the OCD side of me just wont' let me like how your miners keep digging up everything until it looks chaotic, if you could keep them from doing that I think I'd like it a lot more, but as it is I cannot say its for me.. That said my issues are personal preference, its hardly a 'bad' game.
