According to my sites and pops, my world has exactly five kobolds left in it.  :[

I will leave out some nest boxes just in case.

Aww... The warm fuzzy side of DF players shows through.

DO NOT tell me what you intend to do with them.

So it turns out that dumping magma on skeletons is either a really bad idea or maybe like the best idea ever.

How dare you!  I intend to pet them and love them and nurture them and breed them, until their population reaches catsplosion proportions and they can be unleashed on gobbo invaders.

And the socks.  And the stray single steel bolts.

I mean, kobolds *live* to steal those anyway.

I'm fairly certain that if you embark on a kobold cave, they will be friendly. Then you don't have to cage them, you just have to put nest boxes where you want the kobolds to breed.

Word of warning, the last time I embarked on a kobold cave the dwarven liason went ballistic and tried to murder them. All 50-odd kobolds. He got through a fair portion of the population before they swarmed him, too.

just, you know, chain them.  So, they'll breed normally...

Dwarf Fortress: the game where you chain up kobolds so they will emit spores properly

Needs work as a tagline.

Also, if/when you decide to become a mother, please don't post any updates. ("I built the cage trap right outside my apartment, now I just need to forge a golden chain for the father so that he'll give me his spores.")

Can someone explain me what's up with kobold love on these forums ? They steal, they kill your dwarves, they're small and weak ? I do fail to see the point of where you should start to worship kobolds.

Although breeding them against goblins can be interesting... but will you have to make weapons and armor for them, and can they even take it ?

They're like the opposite of elves, not to mention adorable.  We love us some kobolds.

try to let em steal stuff and after few seasons you will learn how mighty they can be .. i have many forts toppled by kobold raids where only few soldiers killed of a 10 times more goblins alone^^

+ they squeel so cute when they are killed .. just like those gnomes at world of warcraft^^

About the title: A literal egg thief steals eggs. This is...not that.
It is still cool, though.

Elves are USEFUL. They bring plants, drink (including the best in the game), barrels, cages and more importantly pretty, pretty tamed animals that you don't get in your fort. The only problem with them is them not accepting wood.

But then again, why trading wood when you can make them ecstatic with hundreds of easily produced stone mugs ? Even better when your stonecrafter gets legendary via mood.
