Egg-Thief ... literally

in my current fort i set up nextboxes for buzzards and such roaming the map ...

now i noticed something strange ...

this little guy just sits in a box and does not move

its a kobold thief for those that dont know the sprite

what the hell is this fellow doing there^^

edit: more curiosity .. i chased him off with a miner-militia and he sat on a single alpaca egg  ... but aren't alpacas larger mammals? stocks in detail mode name it kobold egg

Dunno really, but maybe it has to do with kobold laying eggs.

guess i lay out  a net of nestboxes .. probably it will be a new kind of kobold defense system :)

They're nearly as bad as badgers. Build a couple of anti-buzzard SAM sites marksdwarf towers and your fortress will look like Baghdad in 2003 from all the aerial bolt spam. You waste a lot of ammo and everything is covered in unslightly exploded buzzard bits and broken bolts.

Don't tame them just wall off the nesting area and make some system to seperate and cage them.

I think any civ creature born on your map will be friendly automatically, so you should be able to obtain as many kobolds as come to lay eggs. Not sure what else interesting will occur... the mother should stay friendly to her child though, probably won't pick it up, but in any case will more than likely run like the little skulking filth she is. I'd suggest walling off your nest boxes if you want to keep the babies, with a door to keep goblin thieves out.
I still think kobolds ought to be mammals. They can be monotremes.

I noticed that with my fungusmen just now; they are a underground tribal creature and will give birth to friendly fungusman infants, who are wandering around down there right now. Gonna see if they will come hang with us in the meeting hall.

Toady should hurry up and let sentient friendlies/pets do things while on your map. I want an army of kobold slaves! :P

too late now it was made into a masterfull roast^^

next time a kobold finds himself a box il do that^^ but it seems all fololwing thiefes are male cause they ignore the box
