well i gave them each a room, and they have everything they need food, beer, ammo, armor and a crossbow.

also they are set to train and the shooting direction is top to bottom. What could be wrong?

Do they have ammo in their quiver? You can check to see by pressing enter when it's selected in the dwarf's inventory.

Try to 'q' your Archery Target, you can set which squad can train in this room (didnt you forget to assign a room from archery target?)

and as far as i know you cant assign each marksdwarf to each target, just a whole squad (except you got 1-dwarf squads)

I have 5 archers assigned to 5 ranges that don't overlap and a barracks that is pulled over all of the ranges. No hunters, 500 bolts assigned to them, ammo stored in a stockpile without bins, squad set to 10/10 training all year long. When they aren't shooting at the range (when I run out of ammo) they're training each other to dodge (one of them is a proficient dodger). I have seen all 5 of them shooting at the same time, although it's rare.
