I'll take over for a year or so.
Will post the journal tonight or tomorrow night.
Ok, go for it.  Going to be hard following Servu, though, haha.

7th Galena, 17, Late Summer
Can you believe this?
We have no food left in store. No. Food.
We haven't got a farm either. All our 593 seeds being unused, and our workers starving.
There's plenty to drink, but without food we'll all starve. I'm gonna remedy this situation immediately.

15th Galena, Late Summer
Our sole weaver is taken by a fey mood.
I wonder what will come from this.
I'm forbidding every cloth but Giant Spider Web
...
Oh god! The forgotten beast got inside!
I'm sending the military against its might.

An enormous three-eyed bull! It has Deadly Dust!
Its slaughtering the peasants!

17th Galena
After a fight lasting two days, the beast has been struck down.
There was minimal losses, about three workers and two military died during the fight.
Now there's a fisherdwarf throwing a tantrum.
Probably because he has nowhere to fish at.

22th Galena
A child ventured outside. It got kidnapped by a goblin.
Such is life here. The fisherdwarf is throwing another tantrum.
It begins. Starvation sets in. People are starting to hunt vermins for food. Vermins!
The humans have brought meat with them. But I'm on a break. Send someone else to trade!

24th Galena
Ambush! Goblins Hammermans! Send in the Iron Guard!

I'll need to build a slaughterhouse for those creeps
We got some cheese to appease our stomach, but that will not last a week.

The artifact is done.
Sirabvostaz, a rope reed fiber mask!

Autumn has come. Everyone is starving.
I blame whoever was in charge last if we all to die to hunger.
If we can last another month, then the farms will be completed.

Sarvesh's journal, Part 2

12th Limestone
Finally! we have planted our first Plump Helmets!
The hunger is more than some can take. Tempers are rising..
Now I see what I need to become to save this metropolis.

I shall work in the shadows, filling important papers.
I will mobilize the workforce to reinforce our infrastructure.
I shall carefully keep watch over the workshops to keep them running.
And finally depose the administration to keep control of the fortress.

Its the only way to save Shetbęthiden. Purple Beard'ed, or busted.

16th Limestone
Thats it!
The fisherdwarf is throwing a trantum... Again!
Is he punching the merchants? No matter! He's the first of many, I'm sure!
And here lies the key of the plan - utilize the coming trantum spiral against the current administration!

18th Limestone.
The fisherdwarf has calmed down... apparently our captain of the guard is a real good consoler. Or a jailer. Probably the later. At least we have a good justice system going on.
I'll need to talk with him.

20th Limestone
I'm a fool! We have plenty of meat!
The solution is simply to butcher the animals.
We're having beer-fried kitten steak tonight.
Will attend the common dining room... I want to hear the sounds of a thousand stomach being relieved.

This is delicious beyong belief!

Sarvesh Mossbeard's journal
28th Limestone, Early Autumn

Since the great famine is over, I feel its time to expand.
I've opened a path to the first cavern. There is plenty of shrooms and webs to be collected nearby.  The wood will be used to build more bins, barrels, and bed. The silk will jump-start our cloth industry.
We'll also need proper workshops. At least four workshop for each industry, reserved to our finest craftdwarf. Gonna redo the labor menagement to avoid cross-working.

Finally, we been losing too many dwarves lately. I'm considering some changes.
Most important, a slaughterhouse, to kill goblins before they ever reach us.

29th Limestone
That maze-like cave will make a fine slaughterhouse.

2nd Sandstone
The Baron is throwing a tantrum, because he was locked in his room for so long...
I'm keeping him locked until he calms down.

9th Sandstone.
Why did we not have any kitchens?
How are we supposed to cook those meals?

15th Sandstone
I found a pump stack leading to the caverns.
I believe it was to be an irrigation system for the farms.
Too bad we had no wind. It has to be pumped by hand.
On the other hand, we now have two wells near the sleeping quarters.
So now water will be in abundance.

18th Sandstone
This dwarf is impossible! He keeps throwing tantrum after tantrum.
Why is he mayor? Why is he commanding our armies? Why was he made barony?
Something has to change. But first I need to people behind me...

20th Sandstone
I commissioned the forging of an adamantine armor set, coupled with a battle axe.
My first move will be to appoint a champion.
Took the most competent axedwarf to become our militia commander.
His name is Ragnar Thunderbeard, and he will be an inspiration to our people.

22th Sandstone
We have reports of a new forgotten beast in the depths...
Apparently its a quadruped beast completely made of snow.
It has four stubby horns and it has a gaunt appearance.
I don't know what to make of it. It doesn't sound dangerous. Its just a giant snowdwarf.

1st Timber, Late Autumn
We have disturbed a Giant Cave Spider.
It has webbed and laid eggs into Asmel, our ranger.
I'm sending Thunderbeard in to prove his worth.

3rd Timber, Late Autumn.
Thunderbeard was ecstatic.
He told me the axe cut into the spider's chitin like butter.
We now have a large supply of Giant Spider Silk.

12th Timber, Late Autumn.
We're finishing the slabs room.
The ghosts of the deceased has been put to rest.
Somewhat. We still got one left. He had a strange name.

28th Timber, Late Autumn.
The autumn has passed without any further accident.
I'm giving everyone the engineering labor for a while so we can finish this slaughterhouse. The elections are coming soon. My time will come. Of that I am sure.
Now seems a right time to start the propaganda. I did so much as a bookeeper...
They need to understand I just want what is best for our people.

(one more season then I'm turning in)

You know, you could always slap a perpetual motion device on it. The power requirement should lower quite a bit if you remove the long useless axle.

Sarvesh's journal: Goblin Siege

19th Timber, Late autumn
Oh boy. A caravan AND a goblin ambush. Time to raise the bridges and watch the slaughterhouse do its job!

20th Timber, Late autumn
Sure! Throw a party! The goblins are coming! Lets celebrate. Wat...

22th Timber
Despite the adamantine armor, Thunderbeard is grievly wounded.
He is heavily bleeding, lost his ability to stand, lost his ability to grasp..
Yet he keeps fighting.

23th Timber
Our champion has fallen! The military has fought valiantly.
But the goblins onslaught killed them all. All hope is lost.
That liaison will not see the mountain homes again.

25th Timber
We thought a cavern filled with traps and a bait donkey would weaken their resolve
We didn't finish to load half the traps the goblins came.
They brought trolls with them. Causalities are in the dozens now.

26th Timber
Etur Crescentbanner, The Tempted Tooth Reverence, has struck down the first troll, grievly wounded by the traps.
Since he is one of our last military, he shall become our new champion. I'm assigning him our adamantine armory.

2nd Moonstone
They're leaving. I cannot believe it. The goblins are leaving.
Thank the gods. We can finally bury our dead. It feels like we lost a hundred dwarf.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
7th Moonstone
I'm reassigning a new militia. Conscripted five dwarves to the task.
Their new schedule is to Train, retrain, and train some more.
I'm also forming a squad of marksdwarfs.
For this I'm gonna build an archery range near the gate.

(you wish this was over.. I still got tons more for you)

(Go get that Protomen CD, says I)

Election Speech Night:

10th Moonstone, early winter.

"Degel Rothadil worked the mines, until the day it took him to his grave
Dug his life away, never asking anything in return.
Well there it is, the faults of this machine.
We dwarfs, we'd follow anyone who will lead.

Well this machine, its our city with an iron lung.
Digging away, asking only for biscuits & wine.
Leave it in the wrong hands, and watch the famine take over.
Soon enough, we're hunting roaches for dinner."

"Sarvesh, listen to me now. The goblins will come back.
Slaughtering our kind, leaving nothing behind.
Well our armies, they just got decimated.
Without warriors at our side, we're just dead beards, waiting for the end."

"I say we rework the whole fortress!"
"We can only rely on ourselves!"
"Turn it upside down, from the ground!"
"Forge a better steel-clad military!"
Both: "It shall not become a fortress of death!"
---
21th Moonstone
Every single workers are waddling into sprung traps, rotten corpses and miasma clouds.
Tempers are rising, but the dwarves are still mourning the death of their comrades.
Seeing the cost of the siege, they came to doubt the effectiveness of the slaughterhouse.
For them, only one option seemed plausible. A massive, well-trained military, with the whole industry behind. And for this, they were willing to give all powers to the one man that promised them security.  His name was Kumil Riddlecloisters, he was once known as Chris the Manchild. He won the election by a landslide. That night, without missing a beat, he proclaimed himself Emperor of Shetbęthiden.

=\ the biggest problem was the military refusing the train.
So when the gobbos came they were kind of unprepared.
I hate the military >:(

FYI: Station the squads at the end of the slaughterhouse for massive damage.
