virtualbox?
« on: March 02, 2011, 04:07:38 pm »

Is there any reason DF shouldn't run on Windows XP in a virtual machine, using virtualbox?  It works fine on my Windows 7 and Ubuntu machines, but I've tried it on two different VMs and it won't run on either.

Is there a way to force it to output an error message?

I have no input on this, but I have to ask; Why are you running it in a VM?

Not really sure about this, but have you tried that legacy version? I don't know whether Virtualbox supports OpenGL on its guests or not, but AFAIK the SDL version of DF requires that.  /ninja'd

I would just run it under Linux, but I'm already addicted to DwarfTherapist, which apparently doesn't work on Linux at this point.

Thanks; that's something I can look in to.

Do you have enough remaining ram left between running two operating systems at once to be able to run dwarf fortress?

That's a good thought, but probably not the problem; it's a 12G machine, so WinXP thinks it's got 3.5G.

I've had luck with both VMware and WINE. I'd try either of those options, if possible
