Nah, the end was the best part. That was close, though.

Necro... ;D

I remained awake until 3:00 AM reading one of the best & funniest stories I've ever seen.  I've slept 4 hours but I'm in a great mood.

It makes me wanna play DF so much that it's hard to think about anything else... :P

It really represents the joy and life that the game has.  Awesome.

Every tiny detail was SO good.

Favourite parts? Any other recommended stories?

PS: Now I can understand wtf everyone talks about when they say boatmurdered...

Does someone know WHY did the dwarfs made Cheese drawings?

I mean, elephants crushing dwarfes, dwarfes killing goblins, dwarfs burning, dwarfs melting, snakemen looking defiant...

All was normal... but... CHEESE???

What were they thinking?

Yes, Boatmurdered will always hold a special place in the mythology of Dwarf Fortress.  But, without impugning that epic story, might I suggest we find new epic tales of fortresses from other forums?

Something Awful being the only place they come from, I've recently been reading the righteous tale of Headshoots, a fabulously wealthy super-fortress in the middle of a terrifying lava plain.

Can't focus on Boatmurdered forever. If you did it would kill you in your sleep.

You'd dream of an elephant chasing you until you're stomped by it and die of a heart attack...

StarkRavingMad.

I liked his part. It was the most iconic.

(apparently, in the SA forums, everytime someone starts a DF Let's Play, they rename the King or Queen [once they get 'em] "Sankis". Heh.)

Note that they didn't make pictures of cheese. They made pictures of an image of cheese. I think it was all referring to an early artifact.

Something Awful being the only place they come from, I've recently been reading the righteous tale of Headshoots, a fabulously wealthy super-fortress in the middle of a terrifying lava plain.

Headshoots was another hilarious story (with more awesome fan art too), especially with TRIBUTE and WEAPON, and the super powered Dwarf Hollistic Detective and her backpack of doom. What Boatmurdered is to the 2d DF, Headshoots is to the 3d DF.

Also the decay into communism (Twice!) and the founding of the cult of Hollistic Detective.

Not to mention the sheer frequency at which the nobility encountered "unfortunate" accidents. The noble quarters employed an awful lot of floodgates...
