If there's one available I'd like a dwarf.
A Female
Named Graymist.

As far as skills...surprise meh!

Wish I'd found this thread sooner, been a good read so far :D

I'll dorf you, no prob. Do not count on a long lifespan: we haven't seen migrants in ages due to the caravans being butchered repeatedly by an pretty much literal Goblin/Kobold war on the surface, and we have a mysterious nerve toxin circulating through the fort with completely unknown vectors.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF-

My only regret is that I wasn't able to write more journal entries. Curse you college, curse yooouuuu.

I thought he'd survive, but I've never dealt with a FB syndrome this bad before. One teensy mote of Sealdeath means complete nervous system failure, apparently.

Just when you think you're doing well, the game just kicks you in the teeth...

I've always been lucky with FB poisons.  Usually I've been able to avoid anyone getting infected, and the one time I didn't, the disease made my military totally immune to pain.

No, not yet anyway. It happens without notice: suddenly, even if there's no traces of the FB ichor on them, they can't breathe or move properly anymore. It's seriously paranoia-inducing for me, because I'm aware that any actions besides making the dorfs stand around in the common area on burrowed alert could end up with the death of anyone.

I suspect there's a specific . . . like, "contaminant stack" consisting of ichor and lots of various blood smears somewhere in the fort that keeps getting spread around by movement and rain. Spots of deadly ichor keep randomly appearing between the magma cap and the fort entrance itself. I still have no idea how the ichor got up into the fort when I forbade the bodies of those who died by it originally and bricked off the remains of the FBs. I even scorched the corpse of the dog into nothingness with a magma flood.

My attempt to purge the entry halls and the outdoors with magma ended up torching all the windmills, so it was definitely a backfire. I'll have to log the jungle again, rebuild all the windmills and somehow manage this without anyone else catching the disease. THEN restructure/redirect the pumps to flood specific areas with magma. Or the entire fort. Magma-cleansing every tunnel might be the only solution.

I forgot to mention that two of our best soldiers are one-handed and still kicking ass. Doctor Enolic's ghost surgically removed Vanlade's hand, no joke. He attacked him and tore it off without actually wounding him. Vanlade is doing the dorfy impossible and actively wielding a long sword in one hand. And Stumpy, a former narrator, recently became a Hammerlord. I think another one of our soldiers is crippled in some way but I don't remember which.

FORTRESS OVERVIEW

Topside

Here lies the bulk of the evidence of the ten years of existence of this fort: blood smears from constant conflict across every square Urist of the map and countless random junk littered all over the place. The palisade contains the remains of a disastrous attempt to clean the fort with holy magma. Looking closely, one can see the corpse of a skeletal marlin. Now there lies no confusion over whether or not the fish are truly rising from the ocean to devour the living.

Entry

The power station has taken some damage from the fire. The barracks hasn't suffered from any traces of Sealdeath, even though it lies right beside the quarantined hospital. The top of the goblin bucket can be seen here, as well as the side access tunnel to the power station and pump stack.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Farms

Eliza's farm zone. The cage on the left holds about 30 to 40 animals as-of-yet unbutchered. The farms aren't in constant use: the ground is farrow for most of the year to avoid an overabundance of withered plants. Tons of harvested clothing can be seen in here. Not sure what to do with it.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Living Area

Many rooms are currently unoccupied due to Sealdeath. A statue room full of amazing works of art helps keep everyone happy and is probably responsible for all the kids. The second sealed-up hospital containing Enolic's skeleton is here.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Dining

An improved dining area is down here, engraved on every surface available. The mayor's suite and the Captain's quarters are here as well with some of Taricus' steel statues. The goblin bucket coincidentally ends on this level as well.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Tombs

I haven't counted the graves, but there's a lot of them. At least nine memorials as well. The amount of death we've seen thus far is impressive for a still self-sufficient fort. Plans to move the corpses of dorfed individuals involve the finished construction of the ocean tower.

Very nice progress.

If you are going to go on a break from this, I would instead suggest to either abandon for fort, or to have a final cleansing where everyone self-purge themselves using holy magma, ending the fort.

If not, then this can continue.

I haven't had the time to play a year for a couple of days. I hope for good news when I start it up again.

Back to playing again. Someone else just mysteriously died from it. Not a named dorf, a farmer. The future looks grim for everyone.

Cause That's what I would do.

I'm thinking of making a "safe house" for the dorfed members and the children down below that, perhaps with a delivery chute for food and drink, and have workers just generally mill about in the upper areas doing the tasks I need of them. We need more migrants too, production just slugs along lately.

is the food contaminated?

Food is safe. Ultimuh's second dorf discovered the truth for us all: rain is spreading it around. Whenever it rains, there's a random shuffling of the contaminant stack on the surface. It was killing off the tower workers this way, and by sticking to them it got down into the hospitals. How it got out in the first place is a mystery, but now I know to force everyone inside when it rains and hope for the best.
