Fixed.  Sorry about the confusing original title.

This just entered open beta. Has anybody bought it? I watched a video of the alpha, and the duels seemed fairly slow, but the premise sounds great. Anybody try it out?

Also, I hope this thread necro is ok. I figured there was no need to start a new thread.

I'm mostly curious to know if it has microtransactions or not.

Edit:  Eh, nevermind I just looked it up.   >:(

I know it does, but don't know what the transactions entail. Are they necessary to play/play well? It's nutty to throw that on top of the $20.95 price.

Probably not necessary, but the guy with more cards always has an advantage when it comes to deck building.  Taints the purity of the game imo.  And whenever you have a game with microtransactions, they tend to end up trying to get people to buy them as much as possible.

This is why I love the Living Card Game model that's slowly starting to gain popularity in the card gaming world, you really avoid most of that. If they did something like that instead, I might throw my money at the screen and expect them to take it.

This post on their site seems to explain how micro-transactions work.
https://scrolls.com/2013/06/lets-talk-shop

Looks like it's avatar pictures, preconstructed decks, and a set of six scrolls that can be purchased for either gold (in-game currency) or premium currency, and get switched up every week. Meanwhile, your standard random card packs are only purchasable with gold.
And everything seems to be purchasable with gold, too. Certainly one of the less offensive micro-transaction systems I've seen, but it still seems unnecessary when you have to pay for the game upfront.

Scrolls is one of the two games I am angry at because I didn't get into the Beta.

Scrolls because they basically kept it hidden until it was far too late for me to notice, and Folk Tale for not actually having a Beta but saying they do.

If you're having problems buying Scrolls, this guide might help.

so basicly its a combo of MTG and Heroes TBS?
honestly i thought with all the money they made from minecraft they'd make something less... cliche?
i belive there was this game called Forge? or something like that only with RTS elements instead of TBS

Planetside 2 had a similar system. I thought it was great until I discovered how hard it was to get the non-microtransaction currency. It's completely pay to win unless you sink every day for weeks into it. Rocket pods are ridiculously overpowered and really expensive.

This is by far, the best computer CCG I have ever played. I have been playing the beta of card hunter and it's good but honestly I think Scrolls is just so much better. I am not sure, perhaps I prefer the B2P over F2P(there is no reason to buy anything in scrolls with real money as gold is super easy to come by).

Anyone else playing it?

The format looks cool, so I'll probably pick up a copy once I get paid! Glad to hear that microtransactions won't be needed!
