Mechanical Morhping Terrain (MMT) IT WORKS!
« on: March 01, 2011, 09:35:39 am »

I propose a design:

X= Drawbridge (each tile = seperate dawbridge)
L= lever
O= Wall

XXXXXOLLLLL
XXXXXOLLLLL
XXXXXOLLLLL
XXXXXOLLLLL
XXXXXOLLLLL

The idea: When you raise one of the bridges via lever, it becomes a wall, right? When you lower them, they are a floor.

If we can make one tile drawbridges, we could make morphing hallways, making them versitile. if a caravan comes, we could make the hallway 3 wide, when it leaves, it could be one wide with soldiers stationed in the hallway.

Does it work? I'm going to test now.

EDIT: I was right, IT WORKS!

There's only one problem, you cannot see wich tile is wall or floor without looking at the levers, pointint right means wall, left means floor.

I think raising drawbridges have to be at least 2x1.  Fun idea, though.  Ugh, I hate being the funkiller.

Incorrect.  There will be no difference in the actual drawbridge's look, but it does raise and lower.

In order to do this to a corridor it would take quite a few drawbridges (or a small corridor).  If it seems worth it to you, this is completely feasible, but I prefer just being able to wall off the main entrance way and have a side path that is one tile wide instead.

This is pretty awesome.  Better keep a big army handy, to keep out those pesky building destroyers.. ;)

Challenge: Build an entire fortress (excluding outer walls/"shell") out of moving bridges. Create an elaborate series of pressure plates linked to the bridges so that a dwarf walking in one end of the fortress will influence the paths of others.

Ooh, an idea for this would be to make a MASSIVE room (something like 15X15), do this with the whole thing, add a door at one end, a hole in the top and drop goblins in, set each bridge on a repeater.

Tons of resources used+Goblins tortured+Epic Lag = Dwarven.

I do a similar thing, except replacing 'thee wide path changes to one wide path due to raised bridges' to 'three wide path changes to one wide path due to bridges retracting over magma pit'. And then I cover the one-wide path with repeating spike traps.

You could probably make the new hallway a twisty path, if it's in a 3x3 hallway.

Code: [Select]

_ = empty floor
# = drawbridge

#_#
__#
_##
___
##_
___
_##
___
##_
etc.

Bigger challenge: once you have done the above, have the patience to watch it work: constant re-pathing will bring the fps to a crawl.

Fixed.

Of course, since he doesn't actually walk around counting things, we can only assume that bookkeeping time is spent in deep meditation, psychically sensing exactly how many piles of orthoclase there are. It takes a while to hone a skill like that.

These are incapable of atom-smashing.

This should be used to reenact Cube (the horror movie).
