For some reason I can't imagine Steve will be very uptight about NDAs. There's no corporate structure to tell him to do otherwise and he just doesn't seem the secretive type. I don't think preordering will make you privvy to any secret info

Except that he's flat-out said there will be tiered access depending upon your donation level.

Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that I've not been idle while we're waiting! I've been busy putting together a site for backers. It can't go live until after April 8th, when the funding period is up and I can send out "surveys" to ask for people's email addresses, etc. But everyone from voyeur level upwards will get an account on this private site, which has a discussion forum, FAQ, bug reporting facilities, a suggestion box, my live programming journal, past and future laboratory notes, places for me to document the theoretical stuff and the developing API and biology, user profiles and the like. Different levels of backer will get different permissions as befits their role, so voyeurs will be able to read a lot of non-public material about how the project is developing, while testers can actively discuss it and submit bugs and ideas, and gurus can contribute to the design of the API and edit/expand the tech docs, etc. There'll be limited content at first, obviously - you can't report bugs or discuss the API until they actually exist! - but I'm treating this project as what's called "open notebook science", and I want to share as much with you as I can, including my half-developed thoughts, worries, triumphs and disasters. I hope you'll find it interesting and I'm looking forward to your input (just don't let me get too distracted!).

Still, even though I'm a $50 backer, I agree with you. I won't do any leaking myself out of much respect for the man, but I certainly won't complain if/when I see it being done by others. I certainly hope it wouldn't bother him too much, anyway; all it can do is stoke the flames of anticipation, after all.
