Bunnyhoppers are probably the #1 reason why I don't play multiplayer FPS. It's ridiculous, and it's annoying as hell.
Yeah well what's the Mahdi Army gonna do, ragequit?
Of course not. They will call them "f4gs" over a loudspeaker in squeeky voices before screaming for their mothers to make them a sammich. Obviously the only sane response.

I can see the courses having real value on improving a soldier's awareness of urban terrain features and how to negotiate them efficiently and in ways the enemy does not expect.

This may speed up deployment and movement when troops are not under fire. Plus I guess the soldiers will be more motivated by parcour than by push-ups.

Your statements contridict eachother.
Really? Is that so.
English isn't your primary language, is it kid?
Considering the amount of spelling and grammatical errors in your last post, I'd say that English wasn't your first language either.
Might I suggest we try to keep from making Grammar Douche bag posts like this in the future? They always set a horrible mood for everyone involved.

I still can't see the contradiction though.

Hes saying that it would be useless to the military, then saying it would be adopted within the next ten years.
Also, i believe that is spelled right, but enough grammer nazi-ing.

He didn't say anything of the sort.

You guys saying how useless this stuff is for our military clearly haven't been in our military or been expected to run around with combat gear.

If you're deploying and moving under fire, some new asshole fucked up.

He means when you're not in a firefight scenario. Me, I think it'd be useful in both contexts. A lot of inacessible places become accesible when you learn parkour. It also improves accuracy with slides, jumps, and rolls. Not that people in the army commando roll everywhere, but it does mean people can get their asses into cover faster.

On another note, a lot of modern warfare is taking place in an urban setting. It's the only time we really need to get close anymore, so jogging a few kliks probably wouldn't be as useful as short sprints, over and between obstacles, at least as far as familiarity is concerned.

You guys seem to have skewed perception of parkour. It's not about jumping from roof to roof, it's about covering ground with obstacles as quickly and efficiently as possible. Minimizing the time you spend moving from cover to cover seems plenty useful to me.

Thats called an "Obstacle Course".  The military has LOTS of them, of many different and varying types.  Therefore, by your definition, the military has been doing Parkour for decades.

The only people in the military this could truly benefit are light armed and armored special strike teams in urban settings where speed and stealth are key.  Of course, they allready train for that, so, maybe not.

Thirdly, I love getting a kick outta reading posts about the military from people ( not necessarily DJ) who havent ever been in the military.  Its like open mike comedy night at the improv on every page.   :P

Parkour does have it's origins in military obstacle courses. And reducing the time spent moving from cover to cover is useful to any infantry.

And this is different from normal how? Read "Not A Good Day To Die". The entire battle for the Shah-i-kot Valley was like that.

That said, parkour really wouldn't have helped in that situation. Except maybe the guy who fell out of the helicopter could have pulled some cool moves to flip through the landing skids and whip back into the cabin. Or not.

Read it again. I am saying everyone who is saying it's useless because of a little weight have probably never experienced that little amount of weight.
I was saying, speaking from my experience in the military, that this would be extremely useful, and that I am sure it will be adopted by at least the Marine Corps in the next ten years.
As for asking if this guy's native language wasn't English, it had nothing to do with spelling or grammar. It had everything to do with the fact that he thought I was contradicting myself. This kind of misunderstanding is common for people who don't speak the referenced language.

Not having done Parkour yet, I don't know how effective it will be when the bullets are flying. I do know that I intend to get involved with a Parkour group in the next year, just on the military applications this stuff has. I tend to think a well-unregulated group of potential freedom fighters does a lot more to stop tyranny than a well regulated militia. Parkour and learn how to build simple APCs. I never claimed I wasn't a nut :)

in the context, "regulated" meant "equipped", but Yes, I agree that a defense-in-depth (resistance fighters, armed citizenry) is MUCH better than a shell defense (Standard military).

Imagine yourself as part of a battalion rumbling into NYC. You turn a corner, and molotovs start raining from the rooftops and windows, smashing atop your APCs and HMMVs, splashing any exposed troops and turning the vehicles into roasting ovens. You return fire, but hit few, if any of the resistance because they've all parkour'd their asses outta there as soon as they let go of the bottle. This happens on nearly every corner.

That bogus Yamamoto quote about a rifle behind every blade of grass does do a fine job of making a point.

I think the Allies' army caused more trouble for the Nazis than the French Resistance.

Parkour turns your irregulars into 70s-90s martial arts film heroes versus the enemy's red shirt army.  Your people will be leaping about and standing on twigs that shouldn't support their weight but somehow do, dodging bullets the whole while.  Their people will be dying by the hundreds from glancing blows.  Hell, they'll die when anyone looks at 'em funny.

Says more about the french than about resistance fighters in general. Remember, the American revolution was won via guerrilla tactics.

Saw a spot on 1000 ways to die the other day that pretty conclusively proves that wrong. Dude did a faceplant on a metal pipe. ouch. What parkour does do, though, is enable people to move in directions and at speeds normally kinda hard to achieve in urban environments. Ask any general which wins, mobility or firepower, he'll tell you mobility. Shoot'n'scoot, baby, shoot'n'scoot.
