I didn't say it was good, I said that I sympathize. I'm sure if one continues to spray people in the eyes with OC they'll eventually develop the required pain resistance to function through it.

Takes mental training to overcome pain...not just being subjected to it (that will in time form mental toughening I suppose)

Pain is a perception

Yeah.  It's a perception, which we as living creatures are biologically incapable of ignoring, since it's supposed to keep us from hurting ourselves.

You guys saying how useless this stuff is for our military clearly haven't been in our military or been expected to run around with combat gear.

Yes, the gear is heavy, but you get conditioned to operating with it. Like dennislp3 said, I don't see people running around like it while the shooting is happening (using cover is often more important than advancing, even in our extremely mobile philosophy), but advancing to contact and withdraw I can see it having use.

I can easily see the US Marines adopting this in the next ten years. It is already similar so some things they are taught.

Au contraire. I, for one, have found ways of ignoring pain. I have to ignore pain, or I can't finish a race during cross country. For example, when I'm running and I get a sideache, I use the placebo effect to 'focus' all the pain into one area, and then I run a little bit faster, which occasionally numbs the muscle a little bit. Once the pain is even mildly numbed, the placebo effect takes over and all of a sudden the pain is at a level I can safely ignore. Pain is a warning, and if you know what you're doing is safe, it's just an obstacle.

Considering the amount of spelling and grammatical errors in your last post, I'd say that English wasn't your first language either.
Might I suggest we try to keep from making Grammar Douche bag posts like this in the future? They always set a horrible mood for everyone involved.

I still can't see the contradiction though.

There was no contradiction that I could see.

Also, I had heard about it getting implemented before. And I used to do it. And it'd be very useful for a lot of combat operations, regardless of pack weight.

Also, (in Aus) Military-grade OC spray is five times the concentration of SWAT-grade. That stuff is very brutal.
However, that guy was nigh-useless, and I wouldn't exactly want to go into combat with him.

I suppose that's why he's in training and not, you know, in combat with anyone.

Great. So now the real-world military is taking yet another cue from FPS, instead of the other way around? Bunnyhoppers are probably the #1 reason why I don't play multiplayer FPS. It's ridiculous, and it's annoying as hell.

What next, the Army field medical kits get reduced to glowing green crosses that float in the air?

Yeah, I can't see any possible use for knowing how to jump, land and roll in an urban combat situation. Y'know, the sort of things you learn to do in parkour?

And this is just gonna make you a target during a firefight, it's most likely to be used to get to an area inaccessible by vehicles quicker than you could normally.

Yeah, it's probably being taught because it gives a bunch of athletic skills that may be helpful in the field as well as being good for fitness in general, not because the next generation of fighting is expected to take place on the rooftops.

You guys seem to have skewed perception of parkour. It's not about jumping from roof to roof, it's about covering ground with obstacles as quickly and efficiently as possible. Minimizing the time you spend moving from cover to cover seems plenty useful to me.
