If you listen to the latest DFTalk you'll hear about it. Basically they flash too fast right now, but they wouldn't be hurting your framerate.

just let your flock graze on the tentacles and eyeballs, that should at least slow down their spread.

I once got a test embark where tentacles and eyeballs were the only types of grass present. Seizure-riffic.

I like to think that they're not literal tentacles or eyeballs made of flesh, but rather just plants and fungi that look like them.

The real world presents plenty of creepy plants. Behold, the Dolls Eye plant!

That bat flower is menacing... Creepier than your average depiction of C'thulu.

Someone's been reading cracked.com! Good article. :P

Although if you look in the raws, the eyeball plants use eye tissue, and the tendrils use muscle tissue. Which fits more for a haunted biome, in my opinion. Although it does raise the question of why cows are able to graze on them, but whatever works.

They're called Batflowers because they apparently look like sleeping fruitbats when closed.

As interesting as it would be to have eye-ball like grass, that's not actually the case.  In fact, the material templates use eyeballs and muscle tissues for eyeball grass and tentacle grass respectively.  While not implemented yet, on the Talk Toady threatened to add digestible syndromes, and cause cows to keel over after eating eyeballs, but perhaps allow carnivore species to graze on tentacle grass.  Evil grazers may be your only real source of grazing livestock if some changes are made!

Actually, I find that these types of grasses REALLY affect my framerate for the worse—I've always thought my computer was on the 'better' side of 'completely obsolete', but I recently embarked to a Terrifying location that was literally unplayable because due to the constantly-undulating grass the game was crawling, responsive to commands or moving tiles only once every five seconds or so.

Granted, I was using a tileset (Goldplated, I believe), so if anyone knows of another set that isn't quite as laggy (because I am too lame to play raw ASCII), PLEASE let me know. I love Terrifying locales and it is kind of heartbreaking that I can't play in them.

Granted to the second power, this was also in .21. I know there have been a whole heckload of bug fixes—did Toady tone down the Evil grasses in one of them? *scuttles off to check*

The cows are grazing again... I can tell because of all the nightmare fuel sounds echoing through the caverns.
