Why the foot
« on: February 28, 2011, 10:56:58 am »

Why does it seem like any time a dorf or soldier gets injured it's in the foot.  And then he can't walk anymore.  I have diagnosticians, bone setters, crutches and everything you'd need.  Yet the dorf lies there flashing.  And then I have to build a wall around his/her bed so they starve to death instead of laying there forever.

Why'd you stab me in the foot, man?  Why the foot?!

What is it with goblins and feet...

I don't understand, though that is about right with anything DF related.
I just hope he dies the same death that all dwarfs deserve: liver disease.

Enemies with their feet stabbed can't run. Or pursue. It makes perfect sense.

My totally awesome militia commander, who had been with the fortress since the beginning and had several kills under his belt... was stabbed in the foot by a random thief.

Now he's going to spend the rest of his life withering away in a hospital bed.

Life sucks.

He won't wither away.

You must wall him in or drown him.

My new fortress will have an extravagant hospital with individual rooms for each patient. Please ignore the floodgate entrance or the drains in the floor and ceiling.

Of course, since he doesn't actually walk around counting things, we can only assume that bookkeeping time is spent in deep meditation, psychically sensing exactly how many piles of orthoclase there are. It takes a while to hone a skill like that.

Someday the crutch walker skill will mean something.

Someday dwarves will have peg-legs.

Someday.

And then there will be a bug wherein dwarves can have peg-anything. Peg-faces, peg-livers, peg-brains (makes them elfy), peg-lungs, peg-hands (with holes drilled into them to hold axes), and so on.

Peg... beards? I'm sure this would involve plucking out each hair and replacing it with splinters. Or 2x4s. Or cotton candy.

all i can think of now is the guy from "How to Train your Dragon" who has the peg-leg and hammer hand.

It's possible he's an Honorary Dwarf.   ;)

Though maybe that's the issue. The concept is just too simple for the dwarven mind to grasp!
