And you just keep digging down in the circus, what happens?

I'm pretty sure slade is hardcoded to be undiggable.

What if you remove the [UNDIGGABLE] tag?

Been there, done that.

It's like the bottom layer of the world in .40d; you simply cannot place downwards stairways, channels, or any other downwards constructions on the bottom layer of the map.

Ever been to the top of the sky?  Or any 4 edges of the map?  It simply refuses to let you zoom that far or place structures there.

This might be stupid, but could you mod slade to show up where you can get at it? Or do you mean you just can't do anything with slade?

I wondered this too. I know Slade has hard coded tendencies, but if it appeared outside the bottom layer, would you be able to make, say, slade swords?

I made a thread about this in the modding forums. Keep an eye on it.

It's possible, but if you're doing that it's easier to copy the slade material and make a new, different-named material.  Slade counts as an ore, and is thus economic, but it has no use, so even if you get your hands on the stuff, it can't be used for anything without tweaking even more things.  The end result is "It's possible, but you can do the same thing easier via different means."

If it's an ore, there needs to be a mod where you can find it in clusters and smelt it into Demonite.
Thanks for answering, though.  That's pretty cool.

As I said, it's possible, but will require yet-more modding than simply making it digable.

I know Slade has hard coded tendencies

It doesn't. It's all in the raws.

No, because 1) it's stone, not metal, and 2) it's undiggable.
