Goblins have surprisingly smart uniforms
« on: February 26, 2011, 03:40:44 pm »

Haven't paid much attention to things in the past, but recently, I've noticed something.

the sieging goblins, their breastplates and helmets, all have the symbol of their civilisation on them.

It gives them a surprisingly coherent look.

It makes the eclectic Dwarf armor, where you may see a soldier wearing a wooden breastplate, a copper left boot and a steel right boot, all decorated with either cheese, the symbol of the conquered elven civilization, or a bunch of Dwarves founding a long dead colony, all that much scarier.

It'd help if their armor was all the same material and if they had matching cloaks or something.

Do they wear armour on all their body parts now, or is that still bugged?

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

Hah, they don't wear anything on their legs but a loincloth. It's like they're trying to prove something. Judging by the amount of junk armour I've got clogging up my stocks screen, I'd say they wear helms, gauntlets, breastplates, boots, but not greaves.

Hmm... I wish engravers could engrave symbols on armor and stuff at a craftdwarf workshop now.  I have all my uniforms dyed midnight blue, having a nice engraving or patch would be sweet.  Can leather or cloth images be put on metal armor?

Armor cannot be encrusted with gems, but it can be studded with metal, cloth/leather images, etc.  In fact, you can make custom reactions now to add specific types of decorations, like specify "Improvement: Hanging Rings" but unfortunately, the quality of this will be very low, until custom reactions are fixed next update, and also you cannot specify the art image.  It'll be a random piece of art, could be waves, cheese, or elves getting killed.

I think those 3 are good enough.

Their equipment kind of makes them sound like this disturbing creature. *shudder*

A swordsdorf of mine stabbed a goblin in the eye a year or so ago. The goblins armor now has an image of that specific goblin making a plaintive gesture and that dorf laughing.

That's gotta be a real moral boost, engraving your armor with images of you getting your ass kicked! Hahaha! Or maybe revenge motivates them now?

Every time I experience a goblin siege or ambush I'm now going to imagine them as Murdoc lookalikes, which given his possibly unintentional resemblance to the Gallagher brothers is rather fitting.

Never used Dwarf Therapist, mods or tilesets in all the years I've been playing.
I think Toady's confusing interface better simulates the experience of a bunch of disorganised drunken dwarves running a fort.

Oh. Right, the goblin-like-pointy teeth. Demonic Glowy-eyes, creepy extend-a tongue...

It works far too well, doesn't it?

Looks like merchant guards tend to have their breastplates with the civilisations symbols too.

the goblins though seem to be wearing trousers, maybe it varies depending on the civilisations?
These ones seem to wear iron breastplate + helm, with leather boots and gloves, and various shirts, trousers, socks, cloaks etc. Bowgoblins seem to have copper armour instead.

one goblin seemed to be wearing large armour though o.0
