New player, has problem with becoming capital.
« on: February 26, 2011, 03:09:55 pm »

Ok, so here's my problem:

I have enough architecture and enough roads, and my last caravan waltzed off with enough crafts as offerings to break a camels back. Unfortunately it still says I haven't offered them anything.

Help?

Did you offer the goods to the Dwarven caravan?  Offering to the humans or tree-huggers doesn't count, they take it back to their rulers.  Also, make sure you did offer with the "o" key.

It was the dwarf caravan from my mountainhome, and the items were highlighted green in their trade goods, which I assume means offerings?

Have they actually left the map?  Did they get killed on the way out?

Ah, turns out that they had been stuck in my Depot since after trading, and only left after I destroyed the depot

Also for some strange reason, they were targetable as in I could have attack them if I wanted to.

I believe they are always targettable, but I don't know if your dwarves are actually able to attack.

Also, I believe that your monarch actually comes as a migrant-wave, rather than being appointed. I'm assuming capital means getting a monarch. It's been a little while and I've only managed it once so far.

Oh -- had it already told you "the merchants have left" or whatever the message is?  If not, you may have just stolen all their stuff, thus setting yourself back a good way.

If they were really stuck in the depot after leaving, they may have been rather overencumbered; in 40d, I think it was, there were tales of merchants loading up their wagons and beasts of burden for more than a season.

I don't exactly know, but the outpost liaison went to my mayor soon after the merchants left and basically said something along the lines of 'we really like what you've done with the place'

Something i've noticed just now is that I have on the side of the screen, CHS in red, blue and green respectively, what does this mean?

Red C = Combat logs
Green H = Hunting logs
Blue S = Sparring logs
