Aliens from the ground? Nothing, I suppose. A Craft-scale light weapon is roughly the size of a human adult. Not quite wieldable. In game terms, the aircraft would be firing into your tile from the neighboring tile. This does not, of course, include weapons mounted on alien craft. Those would properly simulate attacks against any present aircraft in range.

The incentives to use foot soldiers are less expenditure if you're aiming for a good public image, less expenditures on expendable ammunition, exclusive salvage rights for everything the aliens drop, and proper training for your soldiers in case you need to, you know, capture some bastards alive.

If you don't care about most of those, having an overpowering airforce is a good way to deal with problems, yes.

One of the things that annoyed me in X-Com was that you couldn't just say "funk it" and bomb the saucer on the ground instead of dealing with ethereals or mutons with blaster launchers. Well, you could just shoot it down and leave it there, but that gives less points, and no loot at all.

Just in case you're wondering, this wonderful idea emerged from a single thought. What would be the name of a corporation that develops an experimental subspace scanner/transceiver? Experimental Communications Inc. ;D

What, did everybody stop playing all of a sudden?

Anyway. Since I, too, lack anything strictly on-topic to contribute, have a concept image of the smallest available BFF in that theoretical game. I call it the "maple leaf", because of the slight resemblance... and possibly because it might be Canadian.

If anyone recognizes the design, half an internet to you for knowing of a partly obscure aircraft simulator. Yes, I lifted the BFF concept and the weapon systems more or less directly from that game, but I hope to splice in enough fresh/different material so as to make it not stand out.

Weaponized BFF...hmmm:

Keeps you from getting sex by hanging around all the time so the birth rates drop...kind of a genetic bomb.

Knows your secrets, habits...Psionic power.

Might bew your Frenemy.  Shape shifting.

No, just priority shifted to DF.
With game-time limited to just before sleep and during travel, one has to prioritize.

Unknown to most but the insane and the mystics, Tarran is actually Earth itself, as Earth is sentient like that planet in Avatar. Originally Earth used names such as Terra on the internet, but to protect it's identity it changed letters, now becoming the Tarran you know today.
Quote from: Ze Spy
Tarran has the "Tarran Bug", a bug which causes the affected character to repeatedly hit teammates while dual-wielding instead of whatever the hell he is shooting at.

I tried all. Dosbox runs too slow or too fast, Xcom utils doesn't have music (the original ones) and Collector's edition doesn't run very well ( garbled screen, plus it has shitty music)

That is why they said to run the Collector's edition with those additional programs, they fix the broken stuff.

If DOSBox is not running it well, either you've got it set up wrong (too few cycles, wrong mode, etc), or your computer isn't powerful enough, for which it would have to be fairly outdated -- no, I correct myself, it could be brand new and still not be powerful enough, if it's a cheap crappy computer, but still: It would have to have a pretty bad CPU in it.

During the Cuban Missile crisis the United States president, John F. Kenedy hand picked a group of advisers called the Executive Committee of the National Security Council. This group was referred to as EXCOMM.

Might be a coincidence, but ya never know... maybe the cubans were under alien mind control and attempting to trigger a nuclear holocaust.

Cuba has signed a non-aggression pact with aliens and withdrawn from the X-COM project?

...Well they're one of the very, VERY, minor ones. And the terror missions there are just as annoying as any other.
