My original name was Fallenstar, back when I was 10 and being a spaghettimancer (at lesat, moreso than here) on some SSBM forums. After I took hint that I was being a sperg, I announced my dramatic abandonment of the sorry forum and made a Steam account (not a consequential decision, it just kind of happened in line). After I realized I needed a rebranding (this is when I was 11 or 12), I asked some guy if he knew Latin.

He directed my sorry self to Google Translate.

This was 4 years ago, and Google Translate wasn't all too refined at this point, so I entered 'Fallen Star" or something into Google Translate and got something like Lapis stella, except lapis was a full word and not "lapis". I made a portmanteau of the two, crafting "Lapisstella", but that sounded a bit too lengthy and feminine, and I was looking for a name with neutral gender. I shorted it to "Lapistel", then "Lapisten", before finally coming back with "Laptisen".

Heh, interesting. My handle used to be 'surqimus' (Finnish word for 'schlemiel' with a Q instead of a K) back when I joined in January, but people kept misspelling it in amusing ways, such as 'surimus' or 'surquimus' and finally 'sirquiamus' or something equally imaginative. _{(I believe this phenomenon is better known as the "Aquizzar Syndrome.")}
