Starting food lasts about a year and a half?
« on: April 02, 2007, 02:53:00 pm »

Even if placed in a stockpile. For the third fortress in a row, I've watched my starting food stockpile "rot" (well it didn't but the idea is the same) at about mid autumn of year 2.  All of it, at the same time. it's in a food stockpile in barrels.  I've only noticed because it's turtle, and the sudden abundance of shells and bones is obvious, as well as one other key thing.  All the by products appear in the upper left hand corner of the map!  No, not where they "rotted" but all the way over there.  What gives?

Is this the temperature based XXfoodXX effect?  What do you mean by 'rot' but not rot?

I'm on a warm map, and the food is in doors.  The food is fine, but dwarves choose not to eat it for whatever reason.  (I never saw any x's by it at least, I didn't constantly monitor it)  About the time that the dwarven caravan leaves in year 2, suddenly all of it disappears and bones and shells appear at 0,0 on the map (upper left) one bone and shell for every turtle left over that was brought.  No other food ever has this happen.
