38a - Long saving times
« on: February 06, 2008, 02:12:00 pm »

I know it isn't really a bug, but it can take approximately two minutes for my game to save.

I did notice an increasing in saving times, in fact. Not 2 minutes though.  :)

Yeah, saves are a lot longer now. Then again, the save folder quintupled in size because of all new data, even for a fresh world.

Yeah, Ditto. Not quite 2 minutes, but long enough to be a moderate annoyance with how often I save/seasonal saves on.

My first attempt at fortress mode, I gave it five minutes (on a 1.75GHz machine) before killing the process.  (I'd just started and decided I didn't like my site--I had paused right after starting out).  Maybe it was actually crashed instead of taking five minutes, who knows.

I did a similar thing right after world creation. I think I let it sit 10 minutes on "Cleaning game files" before I ctrl-alt-dlted the process. I'm surprised the world went through.

This initial automatic save when starting a new fortress took about 5 min (I thought it crashed), with each save after that coming in around 3 min.
Previous versions were all saving in about 30 seconds.

This is probably not a bug, just a lot more data needing to be processed.

I just tried starting fortress mode a second time, on a new world, and again saved soon after starting.  It went through within two minutes.  Only thing I did different was I actually did a little bit of stuff:  Mined a couple tiles, built one workshop, then saved.  It was DEFINITELY faster than the first time, which leads me to believe that the first attempt -was- a crash.

*hugs his new site with sand, elephants, and eagles*
