Topic: Where are the civs? (Read 656 times)

I'm playing 31.19. Before I embarked, I checked the [C]iv screen on my embark location, because I haven't been able to find an embark in 31.19 yet where I have had traders other than dwarves or had goblin attacks. The Civ screen had goblins, dwarves, humans and elves listed. However now that I've embarked, I only see dwarves and "Unknown antman civilization" on the civs screen. I also have seen no traders other than my dwarven brethren after a couple of years now. Is it really this hard to get an embark that has anything but dwarves and Unknown [xxx]man civs? This is the fourth 31.19 embark I've done and they've all been barren of trading partners and potential enemies.

I don't think they show up on the fort-mode civ screen until they've actually shown up at your fort (frex, those antmen are in your caverns). I have no idea why nobody has shown up though, if they were on the neighbors list.

The rest of the civs won't appear until they get a unit on your map. You won't see the kobolds till one of their thieves comes by, same with goblins. Humans and elves won't show up on the civs screen until they send a caravan. The xxxxmen are already on your map even though you can't see them. Basically the other civs that showed up on the neighbors screen are there, your fort just isn't aware that they exist at the moment.

It is quite possible, depending on what year you embarked in, that there are no kobolds left in the world. They are having a problem with starvation. There is an open bug report on the issue.

Well I always feel bad for slaughtering those little guys, when I could be slaughtering the crap out of the more-deserving goblins. So no kobolds would be ok as long as I have the rest.

It's just plain sad to see "Ambush!" and you have like five kobolds whimpering at the edge of your map.
