I think it is 1.8.1, but I'm not sure.

Both servers use the latest version.
And we generally update as soon as a new version comes out.

there's a problem with "latest version".
I consider 1.9Pre3 to be the latest version.
As these servers have several mods which are not available for 1.9 it is however unlikely that that version is used.

how far back do you have backups for the unnerfed server? The character class area has been totaled by a combination of creepers and thieves

Not really any, the backup plugin was not working. The ones I have keep yelling at me about file errors.
