Maybe you should consider Growthcraft as well.
Adds brewing of beer and wine.
Also adds a few other things such as fishtraps and bees.
It has different modules, so pick what you need and discard the rest.

Theres several dozen bees already, I don't think they count as a new feature unless forestry goes poof.

Well.. While the bees are a part of Growthcraft, they come in a separate mod.
Which is quite nice with Growthcraft, cause you can choose what you want and leave what you don't.

I've sort of been considering getting back into Minecraft, but I stopped playing so long ago that I've no clue what to do with most of the mod content. :/

Well, what I did to know what most of it does (since thats the same position I'm in, but with less clues) is dig through this wiki for info and links to mc forum pages, which also had info of some sort. Youtube is probably useful too, though considering the bulk of minecraft there, perhaps not so much.

Thanks, that looks reasonably helpful! Agreed on the YT part too, I don't have the time to spend wading through hundreds of crappy videos for the good ones.

One more thing.
ExtraTiC adds metallurgy compatibility to Tinker's Construct.
So if we want more metals and be able to make TC tools & weapons with them, we can.


edit: Maybe we could do without ATG, since it seem to take quite a hit on Performance.
So what else could we use to make better mountains than what's found in vanilla MC?

That is a good question. Also yeah, performance is pretty important, its why I'm in between on renabling mystcraft.
On one hand, its a pretty great mod, on the otherhand it can drag things down pretty badly if theres too many dimensions open.
