Additional notes from the manual

Tax rate

-Increasing it above 15% inhibits resource production increases, below that spurs it.
-Each 1% increases resource production by 1%, and vice versa.

Feudalism

-Each point of feudalism gives 8 money, 2.5 labor and lowers production of iron, timber, wool, cotton, wine, spices and luxuries by 1.
-Feudalism > 4 eliminates negative penalty for being low on luxuries.
-Each level of feudalism increases the production time for any developments in a province.
-Each level reduces merchant income by 20%
each level gets 250 men to replenish troops in the field, leaving men at home to boost resource production.
-Overall military upkeep costs reduced by 12 for each level of feudalism.
-Each level of feudalism gives free production of infantry and cavalry units in may, optional. This is more effective in conquered provinces, and provinces with high culture.
-If the army is low in number, the feudal levy can be accepted at random throughout the year until the nations military is at an adequate state.

Changing feudalism either up or down can reduce national moral from between 2(small changes)-400(catastrophic, from large changes, possible)

Welfare

-Welfare increases national moral for a while based on the increase.
-costs rise as money is stockpiled. And fall as its spent.

Production

-For every 50 food over the needed, 1 'men' is produced in a province, the most depleted first.
-Each factory level increases labor production 50% and iron + Luxuries by 10%.
-Banks increase basic production of money by 10% in the province.
-Each level of farms built in a province increases production of: Food, Horses, Timber, Wool, Cotton and Wine by 10%.
-Wool and cotton are converted into textiles. 1 unit of textiles requires 4 units of wool or cotton.

Ok so I've started the game, renamed the people(Except our general).

It is 1805

We are at WAR with France and Spain.
We are ALLIED to Russia Austria and Britain.

Our concerns:
PRIMARY - Denmark is French leaning, I suggest as we are at war with France, we might just declare war and invade Denmark/Norway.
Secondary - Defeating Napoleon. There isn't much we could do, we could deploy our fleet to patrol somewhere, but at the risk of falling prey to a superior force of the French.
Tertiary - Business. Initiate trades with ?Britain? Our allies make good merchant targets(for merchant ships), we will be able to probably double our income from this.

If that being the case, we need a job for Mainiac, our star diplomat. It might be beneficial to go on a charm offensive with Russia, Prussia, Britain or maybe France? if we plan to switch sides(and we all know Sweden loves to feed the crocodile).

We could use Mainiac to try and coup Denmark, if we fail they will be pushed into the arms of France, and at war with us anyway. If it succeeds, we don't need to invade at all.

Sept. 1805

-It is heard that the British fleet won a great victory over the French in the North Sea. Maybe Napoleon will be defeated after all.

Oct.

-Britain subsidised(gifts) us 60 money, what great friends!
-Mainiac fails to cause a coup in Denmark.
-Our tax rate has been lowered to 11%(target 10%), spurring industrial production.
-Training is now 16 months.
-The British defeated the Spanish in two naval battles in the Atlantic.
-Spain surrendered to us(alliance) due to insurrectionists in their government.
-Britain rejected a 'reasonable' trade of 3 iron for 3 wool.

What should our terms be to Spain, we can ask for one of the following:

We can have 1 colony(1 offmap production of 1 money)
A royal wedding(more glory lost if they declare war on us again)
Limit their military readiness to 80% of max.
Change their feudal level between 0 and 50%
They scuttle 2 ships.
They pay us 150$.
They pay 6% of their income to us for a year.

and thats it, we don't have much clout seeing as we were not very involved in their defeat and we are a lesser great power.
I'd say we take the 150$.


*note about Spain, insurrection I believe happens when national moral gets low, they suffered at least 2 massive naval defeats, i'm assuming this caused the fall of the government. This is a bit a-historic, seeing as I believe the ruler of Spain was the brother/cousin/relative of Bonaparte. It is however fair, no one can do a Ghadaffi and just go on forever doing whatever they want.

Economic note

We make enough of the basics, food and even luxuries. However we are poorly productive in textiles, used mainly in shipbuilding and forming new armies/corps(flags require copious amounts of cloth!). Food is in surplus, but still a bit scarce.

Factories are in production in a few provinces, it will take about half a year for them to be completed.

2 months later:

Britain continues to defeat the French navy
Austria surrenders to France when Vienna falls
Our people are happy, we initiate reforms to the feudal system.

March 1806

We begin producing a new Infantry division, the Russians are fighting the French in Flanders, should we assist? We could land in the Low Countries and raise hell at least for a while. I feel it would not be in line with honor to allow our allies to fight alone.
