Lag is driving me mad
« on: February 23, 2011, 07:58:12 pm »

Hey guys, i have a problem with the new version

Ive never had such game wrecking lag. every 20 seconds the screen just freezes (as it dose normally when lots of water freezes/ thaws) and it stays frozen for a good  10 secs. which isent very long in life but when your trying to do things it can be very annoying. Can anyone help me with this? is it the new grass system? i only have 112 dwarves presently and ive never had bad lag spikes no matter the pop... :'(

Sounds like ghosts.  They do this for some inane reason.  Get some slabs engraved or graves ready.

Id love to but the bastard fell in a river when it thawed and now his body got destroyed when it froze again. i guess ill try to get the engravers going but its gotten rediculous. i usually keep the ghosts away so thats probably it..

Happened to me a while back too.  His body should still be there, if you can reach it, but it's probably easier just to engrave something.  He should, probably, be near the top of the engraving list.

If he's not on the top of the list, what often happens to me, you could select him in the unit list right after the pets, then nickname him like "SLAB ME DAMMIT" if that is still possible. Should be easier to find him in the list then.

This happened to me when I had the ARB_SYNC enabled. Disabling it resolved the issue.

You can make nicknames AFTER death?!  I'm gonna rename all my dead soldiers so that they look awesome in their statues!

This is a statue of BLOODLUST THE UNFORGIVEN!  Bloodlust is admiring a microcline table.

Those pauses, as far as I know, are caused by:

Weather (namely ice freezing/melting or just calculating if there's a ton of it)
Mass Desgination (Large forts or lots of dwarves pathfinding all at once, such as to haul items or dump a lot of stuff)
Locked doors (suddenly cutting off vital pathfinding and requiring rerouting)
Ghosts (caused by a bug, workaround is to put them at rest)
Flows (Suddenly opening a floodgate or pump, especially if pressurized)
