Designing a dwarven fort (blueprints?)

What the title says and one additional question:

What things must a Dwarven Fort have? This would be designing something that is worthy of being a Mountainhome. It would balance efficiency with architectural beauty.

What functional features should a fort have?
Sealing entrance, if only a drawbridge?
Moat?
Pastures (walled off?)

What aesthetic features should a fort have?
The rooms can't all be square?
Empty spaces make the ceilings high sometimes?
Pillars?

This is just for starters? What do you think?

I am currently trying to do some 3D fractal fort design like described in the Wiki but a modified version. It just looks cool.

About the entrance: There will be a long road on a higher level like this but the road on it will be entirely made of retracting bridges.

He doesn't update a release, so everytime there is something new DF wil get a new version number. So the fixes in there are not in the game yet.
