Finally A Nice Embark! (Now with seed)
« on: February 22, 2011, 09:20:56 am »

Finally! It's a sort U shape, the biome in the middle being nice and treey, with shallow metals and sand/soil mixed, the outer biome being less forested, a sort of shrubby temperate savannah, with clay, deep metals, and flux. A brook runs through the middle.

BUT.

I've seen so many of these before and cried when the metals were all useless. (Often, in many cases, not an exaggeration at all. Cinnabar and Cobaltite anyone). So I wasn't holding up for much.

HOWEVER.

A quick dig down 4 or 5 levels in the shallow metal area yeilded me... Native Gold and Hematite!
HAPPY DORF.
So, this looks promising. Steel and flux. Enough trees to fuel the fires! A nice stream. Temperate to warm. Nice looking climate. Can access all races, lots of wild horses to catch... this could be good!

EDIT: Well, another 10 levels or so down and my miner's breached the marble filled caverns and found me a magmo pool.

Welcome to Dwarf Fortress.

I think it's the way towns develop now. In the beginning, people move into a town. Then they start producing tables, which results in more and more tables. Soon tables represent a significant portion of the population, they start lobbying for new laws and regulations, putting people to greater and greater disadvantage...

A commodity appears at first sight an extremely obvious, trivial thing. But its analysis brings out that it is a very strange thing, abounding in metaphysical subtleties and theological niceties.

*round of applause*

Or in Soviet Russia, does the joke clap at you?

Anyway, transferring back to my Hotel for Dwarves thread now... just telling people that if you persist you may get lucky. Alternatively you can just play hardcore, using your own dead dwarves as walls.  :D

Nice, but I can't seem to find any place resembling yours using the find function in this world. Pinpointing the general area would help.

Apparently I failed to notice the large statue marking the fort in right in the center of the regional map. Derp.

@eepkeep

Well, firstly I posted a picture showing exactly where, secondly BrutalNoodle has found it. So... you're doing it wrong!

@BrutalNoodle

Yeah, I mentioned in my other thread. Just when I thought it wouldn't get better, I noticed an adamantine 2H in the stocks. :D

I can't seem to find that particular spot either. Could you circle it on the large embark map?

It would have helped if the cursor was visible on the large map, but I found it by searching for that pattern of volcanos, on the map generated in Legends mode.

To find the region, go to the lower rightmost frozen square on the world.  Move left one square on the world map.  Now go up on the world map until you get to the northern shore of Deep Blueness.  There you will see the two volcanoes shown in his regional map.
