Yeah, you'll find the early German self-propelled artillery has only 3 ammo and barely any fuel lol.
They have to be used alot more sparingly than the towed type.

but the towed type is annoying in that you have to move them, then unpack, i sorta skipped normal arty and went all mobile arty , and upgraded my old to the mobile.

they have enough fuel to keep up with the first quick battles, and the 3 rounds of ammo sucks but... when you have 3 of them all together attacking a city , and 2 arty hits generally kill a unit... thats 4 units you can kill around a city before a reloading supply's turn. It doesnt seem bad at all for the mobility. Atliest to me.

Also, they will be upgraded again as soon as i get more unlocked mobile arty....

However... uck, i just did the invasion of greece/ yugoslavia, and now i got like only a few of my nice units and gotta deal with the horrible italian units that suck. Its like poland all over again except i was getting used to completely rampaging over the enemy in 2 hits and now the italians constantly die.... FFFF.

Also guys....

What the hell constitutes a major victory??? I just conquered france, and got a minor and i swear i lost only 1 unit that entire fight, and killed so many french tanks and infantry and mowed over all of france in 19? turns out of 25.

I captured almost every single city, the only ones I left were 2 at the very bottom of the map that my tanks were 2 tiles from when i finally captured the last victory point? or important city to win.

stupid minor victories, i feel so cheated.

Major/minor victory is determined by the number of turns taken.  According to this guide the France scenario is bugged.

According to that guide, you had to finish France around Turn 13 to get major. Insane!

Greece was awesome for me, though-major victory. I sneakily dropped a small force of elite German paratroopers, followed up by Italian soldiers in ships, on the jut of land below Greece and took that victory hex. I won the battle at sea luckily enough...yeah, the italians are gonna suck. Keep em in defensible positions, with arty backing up and hopefully bring your air/naval forces to the rescue. You should have utter air control here anyway.

Majoring here means you get to goto Crete-Fun mission if you have experienced paratroops ^_^

Entranched units. (inf/tank/anti-tank and arty) are giving me a headache. How do you guys deal with them?

Also the damage prediction is hard to read anyone have any tips for that? (ctrl left click)

Entrenched units are best dealt with by a combination air+artillery bombardment following rapid attack. Remember, ANY attack, direct, artillery, or air, even one that does NO damage, will reduce the enemies entrenchment by 1, making it easier. So even your fighter with 1 ground attack can lower enemy entrenchment after you shot down all the enemy planes.

Start by smashing the artillery and enemy defending units with your own artillery, tactical bombers, or even flank them and hit it with tanks.

With defending artillery destroyed or mitigated, and defenders weakened, follow up with *infantry* attack-engineers in particular gain nice bonuses to attacking heavily entrenched units, and infantry can take care of AT guns easier. AT guns are a pain in the ass to kill no matter what though...

Strategic bombers are highly useful as well-they inflict suppression on an enemy, that lasts until the next turn, instead of going away in a combat round. So you effectively halve an enemies strength, making them likely to retreat. Also, it reduces their ammo-if you totally can't take an area, you could peck them with expendable units and blast them with strategic bombers until they run out of ammunition lol

Well, I'll put it easy enough!

What so strategic bombers are "morale" damagers. What does the other bomber kind do?

Tactical bombers are the other-think Stuka dive bombers (tactical) vs Superfortresses (strategic)

kill the enemies strength directly, but obviously they wont kill as much as the you could supress in a single turn. So, they do permanent damage (until they have a chance to reinforce) but it's less overall.

Poland really is kicking my ass.

I've been playing on the medium difficulty. I managed to win the first scenario once. But I forgot to save so I'm back to it again with absolutely no luck. I even tried lowering the difficulty, but I didn't see any significant improvement in my performance.

I've tried taking every city, I've tried bypassing them all except the ones I need, I can generally run a good offensive up until I reach the two objective cities. Sometimes I can take one, but never both, and sometimes neither. I just slam into the defenses like a wave breaking on rocks. I have learned that infantry really is the key, and they're fine on the attack, but the enemy just reinforces everything way too quickly and I can't keep up and my units, damaged from the attack, are forced to retreat... if they're lucky. With the 10 turn time limit I can't really afford too much of this kind of delay, and each failed attack simply weakens my forces and allows them to strengthen theirs again.

I am a bit surprised how much Fantasy General actually matches Panzer General (Yes I am aware they are basically made to be the same game with different looking units)

buy 1 or 2 recon cars and rush to the cities, while the rest of your units move up behind, it may help.

after someone gave the advice to bypass the cities you dont need I can beat that scenario with 2-3 turns left to spare now.

Also, Always run around and kill the enemy artillery near a city, or else youll receive massive losses during attacks, because arty will defensive fire within their range at anything your attacking.

Infantry counter AT and infantry, and cities

Arty counters everything

Tanks counter early on other tanks and infantry depending on which tank your looking at, later on tank generations they seem quite capable of killing infantry easily and opposing AT guns. offensively or defensively.

Yep, most late war tanks have much upgraded soft attack values, making them better infantry/at killers-but, late war Americans and Germans have alot of good armored tank destroyers, which are much worse than those-infantry are crap at attacking armor, and tanks attacking tank destroyers is crazy bad. They can still be bombed from the air :)

You should still be wary of attacking heavy infantry with high experience in cities, even with late tanks like panthers and tigers, as they get to strike your close defense values, which is zero in most heavier/slower tanks. If they have low experience, you'll probably win intiative and flatten them though!

Arty, seems not to be useful at blowing at tanks for me, at least later war ones. Then again I bought a ton of nebelwerfers-the rocket artillery with crazy soft attack...lol

@Sluissa: Well, the first Poland mission is VERY annoying, since the enemy gets alot of reinforcements, you get no planes and it uses the small map to roadblock you. It's an admittedly rought start...

Just get your guys in the hex's around the city, then they can't plop down units there. I usually squeeze a tank through the swamp at the very top corner city and hit the artillery behind. And hey, you can pick any scenario to start from-just start on the 2nd Poland one if you already beat it.

Glad someone mentioned fantasy general! I loved that game. It took alot less strategy though...I beat all the missions by slowly rolling through the enemies with siege weapons and heavy inf...
